I know that I am going to get heated arguments on both sides of the issue, but I must ask: which autism symbolism do you prefer, puzzle piece symbolism, infinity symbols, or something else, or no simbolism at all?

My thoughts are I prefer the puzzle piece symbols because I AM NOT something to be solved nor is ANY autistic person, but I am unique and thus puzzling to the rest of the world who just doesn’t understand my unique way of doing things.

I like the puzzle piece.
It's like, trying to understand what was going on with me was like trying to put a puzzle together with the picture facing down. None of it made any sense. Finding the Asperger's piece let me turn the puzzle over and actually see what it's a picture of.
Kind of like that, anyway.
So sometimes I wear a little pin that I made with a puzzle piece on it, with the brown side facing out.

I feel the same when it comes to my own autism journey, but not at the point of getting the label, but at the point of self discovery and acceptance after running from the label because of all the horrible ways in which family and others abused it

I loathe the puzzle piece. They're about the same as swastikas. I am not broken or incomplete, and I don't need to be fixed or cured of my "disease". I much prefer the infinity symbol. I also hate it when Autism $peaks encourages everyone to "light it up blue". And that's sad, because I really like soft blue lights. :(

I've heard of lighting it up red instead, but red lights are hard on my eyes, plus they make everything around them look extra dark and creepy with long shadows and stuff.

You raise up valid points! Extremely valid points. As stated I have a preference for the puzzle piece. Not because I am broken or incomplete, but rather because I leave everyone who is not familiar with me scratching their head wondering what the hell they just saw/interacted with. I however, can see your distaste for the puzzle piece.

The infinity symbol. It means there should no limits to what we can do.

I'm totally indifferent, as I don't really see why any kind of symbol is needed at all, but I don't mind people using them if they find them meaningful personally. It seems to me that their meaning is read in many different ways by different people, whether on the spectrum themselves or not, so I don't really feel that they're communicating a coherent message - which leaves them having to be explained using words anyway.

DING DING DING! And that’s why I started this thread. To put a gage on what others in the community saw in the two most common autism symbols. (+50 arbetrary Carly points for you). Note “Arbetrary Carly Points” are just that arbetrary. They’re my way of giving more than a thumbs up but a HUGE thumbs up

I am not a particularly “political” autistic person.

I prefer the infinity symbol because it symbolizes infinite possibilities. Plus, it doesn't have ties to Autism Speaks.

Puzzle: Reminds me of autism speaks, so no.

Infinity: Everyone seems to have infinity tattoos nowadays, so it's not really exclusive, isn't it?

I like the rainbow, but it'd lead to some confusion as it's also used to mean LGBT, and to a lesser extent peace.

Wow! That’s an interesting thought. Yes, your right about there being confusion with a rainbow symbology considering that rainbow is often used as an LGBT symbology. For me that just means one unified symbol since I fall into both groups.

Well I see the multi colored puzzle ribbon representing the autism spectrum, rather than me personally. I've seen it in the form of a Superman "S" and so on. To me that's just how the spectrum is symbolized.

As for the lone puzzle piece, I guess I would just see that as being a part of the greater whole of the spectrum.

But really I don't care much one way or the other.
