How reluctant are you to undertake a task or tasks in areas that are outside your special interests?

Generally, not at all adverse. I won't pursue it obessively, but I will try to become competent in it if I can, esp if it is important (like school) but if it is not critical I will tend to let it slide until I am forced to do it (normally by parents)

This requires thought!
Hmmm?
Let's see.....

Yes! I have reluctance learning new hobbies
and interests! I find the funds to do them
just aren't there.

I like learning about new things if I am interested in them, but if I do not have an interest, it becomes a lot harder to focus. I'm sure this is the case with most people, as well, though.

I am, however, very reluctant to try new things. I prefer to wear the same clothes, go to the same restaurants and order the same food, take on the same sorts of jobs, etc.

I'm not exactly reluctant, but willpower doesn't generally make me able to do much outside my area of interest.

I tend to be reluctant, if things are beyond my interests. I have trouble wanting to do new things.

I am also resistant to alot of change. I hate
buying clothing, and it is usually the newer
version of the dead item! Food...."I eat when
it is neccessary", thus food is not a primary
concern and pidgeons eat better than me!
Emotional change requires stage and steps!

The job thing is what I really need to change
the most. What's the point of leaving one
food job for another, and if so! what a waste
of leaving the last.

Change should be change of the "All" not
just envirement, but also new skills to see
beyond, and this I must learn!

Thanks for this reminder, Civet!

Sincerely,
Ghosthutner

I dislike any subjects that don't interest me. It's not like it would take much effort to learn them through brute force, but I just can't focus on them like I can on subjects I find useful.

That reminds me. At the time, I never considered it weird that I wore different combinations of a black hooded sweatshirt and a pair of khakis every single day of school for my entire middle and high school career. I thought my friends were being strange for pointing it out. Hehe.

For me it's not a case of reluctance - it's simply that I lose concentration within seconds for something in which I have little interest. In the same way that I can completely zone out of a conversation and not be able to hear what is being said if the subject matter is not within my range of interests. It is not something that I feel I am able to do very much to rectify, visual and audio 'distortion' (for want of a better word) kick in and I, to all intents and purposes, become blind and deaf to the task at hand or the conversation. I mean this quite literally (as would be expected :D ) - my vision will blur and my hearing cannot filter out voices from background noise.

I know what you mean by "it's not releuctance," Feather. I just get totally distracted. Like, my mum tells me to do dishes, I decide I need a strawberry yoghurt (one of my current "obsession foods". It used to be peanut butter) and the dishes disappear.

Well, they disappear from my mind, but not my mother's. She usually yells at me for not doing them after about ten minutes.

Unfortunately, most of what I do at work is outside of any of my areas of interest; I really have to force myself to feign any interest whatsoever in my day-to-day tasks because I really couldn't care less...it's a Herculean effort, lemme tell ya. :? :x

I have a general interest in fascinating information, even if it doesn't relate to anything I've studied in the past. So, I suppose if it is by my own initiation, I have a fine time. But if it is something which is suggested or forced upon me by another person, there is more chance that I will become bored. However, I have a wide range of interests, so there are not many things which I just absolutely despise and would never touch with a 39 and a half foot pole. I have a talent for almost always finding something interesting in a subject. But if the suggester/forcer continues to be involved in my interest or project, I get angered. I like to do things on my own. I am a selfish person, indeed.
