The humidity is the worst. I’m constantly exhausted and my limbs get heavy and aches, I can hardly sleep.
My coping ability for anything goes down dramatically when I’m too hot or if it’s too humid. I feel so so stressed and trapped, even with air conditioning I can feel the humidity seeping into my body. I can hardly function when the weather is like this. I know I must seem impossibly fussy and lazy to observers, but it’s like I’m experiencing a whole different reality to everyone around me. I don’t have a lot of severe sensory issues but this particular issue is so bad for me and I can’t explain it enough to get those around me to understand my frustration and bad temper with something so seemingly trivial. I live in New Zealand and often use the excuse that I’m from the north of England to explain my discomfort but I know other northerners love travel and hot countries. It’s hellish to me. Please tell me other aspies face this sh*t cos I feel alone.

There are a lot of Aspies here that feel the same as you, but unfortunately I'm not one of them. I prefer the summer, the longer days, the heat. I find the winter unbearable. I hate the cold, and the ice and snow. I hate the trees being bare. I hate the days being too short.

The only thing is I like the rain, while everybody else grumbles about it. OK, admittedly I like it to stay dry in the summer (except for thundery showers), but in the winter who cares if it's raining? At least the rain warms the temperature up a bit. The rain suits me. I much prefer walking in the wet than walking on slippery ice in freezing temperatures.

Can't help wondering, why did you leave England? I skimmed over your post history, and to me you don't see the sort to emigrate.

This response is partly motivated by the fact that a female American member on the forum recently stated she wants to move to NZ (I forget whether she's already visited there). She's certain she'll be happier there. So interesting to see another immigrant to NZ who seems to be suffering.

BTW my NT wife has always complained bitterly about the heat. Never wants to travel to warm countries except in Winter. Even Mexico City in March (at 2200m altitude) was too hot for her. I don't think there's any connection with being on the spectrum, would it be more tolerable for you if it were?

I'm already dreading the arrival of summer. The last month of it especially is like pure purgatory.

I can't stand heat but I don't like to be cold either. I live in the north of England on a breezy coastline so the temperature doesn't often reach levels that most people would consider hot. It still gets too hot for me in summer though. At least in winter you can put on extra clothing to combat the cold. In summer there is a limit to how much you can take off! Although I sometimes traveled to hot countries with my partner in the past, I never want to do so again.

I hear ya. Summer is just dreadful. Anything above 18 Celsius, 18 is like my max coping temp.

It doesn't help that I get heat stroke/sun stroke either. Just a complete lack of energy. I'm sure other people just don't comprehend just how much it affects me. They say they hate it too, but I see them going about their day to day lives without any issue, where as I am literally dying!! I just want to take my skin off!! People say hot countries are different, but I've been Spain in early summer (was horrible) and I've been North Italy in late winter/early spring and even that was unbearable. Freezing cold in the morning and evening, but in between like height of summer!!

emigration to Canada is high on my bucket list.

I'm the same, but I'm pretty sure I have Sjogren's Syndrome, so I think that is to blame more than ASD would be. I rarely sweat, and the heat + stress makes my brain fog and muscle fatigue much worse.

I practically have to live in the basement during really bad summers, but even down there, it can get to you if you don't keep a dehumidifier going.

Hate the summer too, everyone down here in the South loves going out to the bar, walking around and all that when it's 90 degrees on an early Friday night and hate it. Grew up in Ohio with the cold, snow and all that before global warming (not trying to be political, but going from blizzards to 100+ degrees in the summertime to time was such a stark change).

Would love to move to Colorado someday soon, get to experience true winter again.

I always liked summer. I much prefer hot weather over the cold of winter. Also, it doesn't (usually) snow during summer, so there's no risk of it freezing and the roads getting all slippery.

You're not alone. I never liked heat, and I hate being too hot and sweaty. I hate hot weather and bugs, and pollen bother me too in summer and spring.

Heat makes me lethargic and grumpy, and it feels bad.
I have always gotten too easily hot, and am far less tolerant of temperatures others find enjoyable.

When most people find summer hardly beginning, I am already miserable.

Heat was the one sensory issue that I honestly suffered.

For most of my life I have (almost) never been too cold. But the last few years I have been freezing more than I have the first 35 + years of my life. So now I don't like either.
This winter for the very first time of my life I uttered this phrase: "I am sick of feeling cold"

I also moved south, and I regret it in the summer. I didn't even move that far, only 650 km, but it's still a tiny bit warmer down here, and way more humid, making both heat and cold seem worse. Oh, man... Should've stayed in Sweden.
I turn nocturnal in the summer. It's the only way I can get something done.

I would like Scandinavian weather in the summer. New York weather is too hot and humid. 30 Celsius is the average high.

Hah! And here I am, complaining about melting at 15c.
We do sometimes get a day or two of 30c, but it usually stays down at 20c (in the hottest period).
After reading this, I feel very lucky that these summers are short and mild most of the time.

I also don't like the summer heat. Summers are getting hotter each year and I'm getting to my breaking point as far as summer weather is concerned. Maybe I should move to Northern England. I can't take the summers of South West British Columbia anymore.

I live where it is very hot and humid and thought I would share a few tips for making the serious oppressive heat/humidity slightly more bearable. These are just put forth as suggestions, many may not work for you.

Wear cotton clothing only. It is the coolest and most breathable fabric. It also will absorb the sweat best.
Tie a cotton bandana around your forehead to catch the sweat before it gets into your eyes. Dampen it with cool water to get a cooling effect as well.
Drink lots of cool fluids such as seltzer, water, sodas
Put a can of cold soda right from the frig onto your forehead or neck. Rotate as it warms up.
Stay in the shade
Search out breezes
Use a fan. Sit in front of it. Use a fan, put a damp sheet in front of it (not in it, hanging in front) and sit behind the sheet.
Put a cool damp washcloth over your face
Avoid exertion during the hottest part of the day.
Get wet - cool showers, jump in a pool or pond, repeat frequently. Be sure to get your head and hair wet.

Cool running....
