As long as I can remember I've been obsessed with violence. I like studying genocides, "religious" wars etc.

My personal views on human violence is that it is all stupid. I still HATE religion and even the ideas of separate nation states. It's a crazy frame of mind but it's the only thing I can I really do with all this seemingly useless knowledge I think about ALL DAY EVERY DAY.

It's not that unusual... I used to study the Nazi medical experiments, medieval torture techniques, horrible diseases, etc. Not quite what you are describing, but it's not that dissimilar. Humans have savage minds and instincts, and we still need an outlet for our warlike side, although it should be unnecessary.

I don't think it's that unusual.
My dad had a life-long special interest in serial killers; I have a special interest in death and decomposition.

As long as you don't lean towards violent tendencies yourself, it's ok to study it.
You could even become a criminologist and turn it into a career. :)

You're not the only one here with such interests.

I've also spent a lot of time on things like that.

I might not be as warlike as some of the other members posting here. I don't even believe in nation states competing over resources OR wars over ideas like the russian revolution.
EVEN BUDDHISM I dislike because it is causes racial violence (look up the violence between buddhists and hindis in sri lanka)

I tried stop listening to death metal, quitting mma etc none of it works.

I know violence is wrong but I love it.

Like others said, as long as you’re not violent yourself, or desire to be, or believe in it, there’s nothing wrong with indulging in your interest.

Just don’t tell every Tom, Dick, Susan, and Pamela.......

I've been interested in things like serial killers and I used to be extremely interested in the holocaust. My reasons were to attempt to understand the underlying motives behind these things. Like, for the holocaust, what would cause an entire nation to start exterminating so many of their inhabitants? While I can type out answers, when I look at the horrific act, it still is hard for me to digest.

Anyway, this is a violent world, and the United States is an incredibly violent nation, so I don't think your interest in violence is really disturbing.

We might be an incredibly violent nation....but most of its residents are not violent.

Not at all unusual-I studied the impact of Stalin's regime on Ukraine in the 1930s.

We should study this stuff—in a rather detached way.

It’s hard not to get emotionally involved, though.

The best westerns are those where nobody gets killed and it's a laugh.

There's too much senseless aggro in the world.

I've studied it too, in fact that's just about all I thought about when I was younger.

Question is what to do with this knowledge?

I've seen trump use mexicans as scapegoats for all the US problems (like the jews in europe) and I recently radically changed my views on politics to pro-Sanders simply because he seems the least like trump.

Anyways views on politics aren't really the point of this post, it's what to do with the knowledge of all these horrible acts of violence.

Yeah that sounds crazymaking. For me the best way to come out of a disturbing obsession (disturbing because of the object of my obsession or the intensity of my obsession) is to go back to basics with my routine. I look at things like water consumption, time spent out of the house, cardio exercise, journaling. I just turn my routine into my obsession and the bad obsessions kind of just fall away like debris in a stream.

That is good advice I like torturing people in wrestling and lifting weights at the Y. It's great exercise but really my only motivation is to do intense workouts is so I can inflict pain on people if the need arises. I was in Jail for a while and people tried to start fights with me, had a step dad that beat me up etc. So I can motivate myself for intense exercise but only for the reason to inflict pain on my enemies.
