KraftieKort, that appears to be your personality. I start out like that too and can be until I'm sensory overloaded while simultaneously pretending to be NT on the job. I've had to be tactfully direct in asking coworkers to include me in conversations that directly involve the job. Evidently histrionics are the preferred method amongst this group.

I was hired for this job because of my unique abilities to work with autistic and learning impaired children. That is what I was told. Hired on the spot. I didn't disclose myself but I did say I tended towards the quiet side. My references penned me as the child whisperer.

You probably have a certain genius in this. And they can sense it. They can sense that you will obtain positive results. Special needs kids are very hard to work with. Turnover is extremely high.

Sensory overload happens to me, too. I screw up massively sometimes when I am overloaded.

That and academics.

Oh boy when we took the zoo field trip in March, my coping at days end had me on verge of tears....especially when one of teachers wanted us to all load into Wendy's down the street once we got on the bus to head out back. 50 people counting all the extra adults. Instead we had a teacher phone in an order of 50 frosties....she went inside with two helpers....ate on the bus...no fuss....yeah I was so worn down. I hate zoos. Smelly, dirty and noisy.

Not to mention having to keep track of 50 kids who might not have good impulse control. Who might run into a street full of cars, or run away, period.

These attention seeking adults annoyed the hell out of me.

Last time I went to the zoo I had a 3-hour long meltdown. And this was just last summer. Never going to the zoo again.

Is there any other kind of ASD person than "easy going"?

Passive, withdrawn, conflict averse. I took the MBTI and enneagram tests awhile ago and got INTP, 5w6 or 4. Close 9w1. 9w1 is the harmonizer sort.

Krafty's relaxed disposition is a rare thing in any forum. I've told myself more than once 'chill, be more krafty kool'.

Awww, what a nice thing to say!

kraftiekortie is a positive asset on these forums, and I'm glad we have him here.
