I was put on Zyprexa and Taxilan years ago, at first for supposed Bipolar, then for supposed Schizophrenia.
Right now my docs say I should go off them if I can, but I can't. And by trying to go off them, I realized that they help me pretty much. My idea was also that I should go off them, because No schizophrenia > no Antipsychotics. But the equation doesn't seem to add up.
When I go off these, like recently when I was of them for 1 month, I grow very edgy and restless. I am offended by minor social stuff, I'm jumpy, and whenever someone does something sudden, or against my idea of how it should be done, I get these little nervous breakdowns.
I don't really believe that it's the withdrawal. I can clearly remember that I was exactly like this in my teens and early adult life, before being introduced to zyprexa and such. So I basically become my (true) self, and it feels BAAAAD.
Maybe this stuff is actually good for me? even if I don't really have Schizophrenia or Bipolar? (actually I believe myself that I actually do have mild bipolar. my doc onced said I might have "Cyclothymia")

Anyone else on Antipsychotics with good results? like for edgyness or being sensitive or mild agressiveness or whatever?

Possibly Aspie (diagnosed by an autism expert, doc moves abroad, forced to change docs and all say it's schizophrenia NOS or schizo-affective disorde or personality disorders. initial doc was a colleague of uncle Simon btw. you do the math.). (edit: by Uncle Simon I mean Simon Baron Cohen. Just to clear things up.)

I'm not on them nor do I know anyone on them. In my personal opinion I feel that many of these meds are a conspiracy from the pharmaceutical industry to make money off people's pain and suffering. Many of them do come from herbs naturally but are highly synthesized and cause many side effects that do in turn "make you go crazy". Now more then likely for you the doctor probably realized that you didn't need to be on that strong stuff but since you've been taking it for so long, you're now dependent on it. That is the plan of big pharma.

I know Quetiapine. It zonks you out.

Don't take any of them unless an argument to force is involved.

I'm on Abilify and I was on Risperdal and Sulpiride before for 'autistic irritability'. Risperdal wasn't good for me as it was impossible for me to stay awake while I was on it. Sulpiride didn't work. But I'm content with Abilify, I have no side effects from it and it works well for me.

All of these medications are horrible and have awful side effects (and horrendous up front effects, as well). I don't want to be on any kind of medication needlessly.

I've been on quite a number of antipsychotics for insomnia and anxiety (olanzapine, Abilify, seroquel, stuff I can't even remember from years ago). I'm just autistic plus I have severe PTSD (cPTSD). The meds were incredible overkill and shut down my creativity and drive to expand (or even maintain) my sphere of activities. But each time they were offered, along with antidepressants, I kept getting false hope that one time they would actually help.
They never did. They made it dangerous to drive at times too. Going off them produced nasty withdrawals including insomnia and greatly increased anxiety. Psychiatrists who didn't have experience with autism would put me on these medications. I once got a misdiagnosis of bipolar-II because I said "yes" when asked if I experienced agitation, but an absence of positive moods (joy, elation), which was mislabeled "hypomania". I'm simply autistic with alexithymia, which is common. That misdiagnosis of BP-II has been following around on my medical record now for about 5 years. When I'm on antipsychotics or when I'm withdrawing from them, it is very hard for me to remember my "baseline state". I got off all psych meds about six years ago and have been doing better. I asked my general practitioner doctor for seroquel for a bout of anxiety I had a half year ago and she and my counselor both discouraged me and now I'm glad I didn't start meds again. With good therapy / counseling I've found I progress better without medications. Antipsychotics tend to disturb blood sugar levels and lead to weight gain and those are not good in my case. They are being prescribed off-label for lots of conditions. I think they're being over-prescribed. They are now being widely prescribed for patients in elder care facilities in the US and that has come under regulatory scrutiny.

I'm on haloperidol for tics and it works. Only thing is that I have to take benztropine too to stop the side effects of haloperidol.

I used to take Seroquel for sleep but I gained a lot of weight and it turns out that I don't need help falling asleep anyway. So I stopped Seroquel.

I have tried both ziprasidone and risperidone as alternatives to haloperidol but ziprasidone affected my heart in a bad way and I felt terrible all the time on risperidone. Olanzapine is another one but that made me twitch all the time which was worse than tics.

I have been on an anti-psychotic before, it was supposed to help my anxiety...but I hated it. Serequel or however it is spelled I think. I found that really the only pharmaceutical that helped my anxiety ended up being Valium. But I also find cannabis to help...plus I know how to brew Valerian root tea to have a similar effect to Valium, trick is you have to simmer the root on like medium heat on the stove-top while keeping it covered to soften it up and collect the essential oils, rather than just taking dry root and steeping it in hot water. I don't have a prescription for Valium anymore but I don't think I really need it either there is cannabis and Valerian root.

I'm on Risperdal.

It helps prevent meltdowns, so it works for me.

I think I've been on several different ones since I was little. I think they work well for me. I don't know what I would be like without them.

I've been on Zyprexa and Risperdal, and now am doing very well on Abilify. They certainly aren't for everyone, but for someone like me who's been on ALL the antidepressants by themselves with no results, they are the next step.
