So i run into this video and the first question is ''How early can Asperger's Syndrome be diagnosed?'' To which he answers that in girls it's highschool. So age 16-18? I thought it can be diagnosed in childhood? This left me confused. What do you think about this?

I think Tony Attwood is the most informed commentator amongst the professional commentators. He has enormous clinical experience, and his efforts to educate people (both AS and NT) in a reasonable way are unmatched. He is trustworthy and not in anyone's funding pocket (as a lot of the medical researchers are) and doesn't seek sensationalism (as a lot of the medical researchers do) for their own self-promotional reasons.

His Complete Guide to Aspergers Syndrome was the best guide available at the time and for a long time afterwards. His service to AS people has been consistent, kind, informed, inspiring and he has done more than anyone in the effort to educate professionals that AS girls present differently, and ignorance about this delays their diagnosis, they get misdiagnosed with other conditions, they get the run around (so do AS women) because the criteria were based on male only samples.

Men and women - whether AS or NT - are different. It amazes me that so many people with PhDs in research are not aware of that. Tony Attwood is aware of it. We owe him a lot IMO.

Now they are diagnosing infants. How old is that video? The diagnostic process has evolved a lot in a very short amount of time. It was only very recently that people did not think that girls were even capable of being Autistic at all. And higher functioning girls often tend to present when they are older than boys. So if that video is old, it would make sense that he would say that in it.
