My special interest for as long as I can remember has been parrots. When I was 11 I decided that a budgie (also called parakeet) would be the perfect pet for me. I bought him shortly after my 12th birthday. His name was Joey and he was very beautiful. He sadly passed away one month before my 14th birthday.
After he passed away I decided I wanted a bigger parrot. I looked for good species (parrots are not different breeds but different species) and good breeders. I landed on a Jardines parrot. 3 days before my 14th birthday I bought Sammy. He is my best friend and brings me so much joy. Pictures of Sammy (and a few with both of us) can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8Cklj0RsjdKfXWMs1

I have always known I wanted more than just one parrot, and with my 18th birthday coming up I felt that now would be an appropriate time to purchase one. As I still live at home (2 weeks at dad's place, 2 weeks at mom's place etc.) I had to discuss it with my parents.

My dad agreed to buy me a parrot. I had told my parents that I would stand for all and any costs realting to the parrot and that they would not be financially responsible for him/her, so my dad offering to buy it for me was a nice surprise.
I have chosen that the kind of parrot I will get is a Congo African Grey. They are well known for their ability to speak and mimic (although this is something that I don't care about) and are highly intelligent. They are known to be very sensitive to change (and they dislike change), so I consider them to be the autistic species of parrots.

Right now I am thinking of naming him/her Andy. Will open a new topic on the matter, if any of you have ideas for good parrot names.

I have not before posted about parrots and my parrot(s) in detail as I didn't want me to be identifiable by my parrots, but now I no longer care and have realised that the possibility of someone on this forum knowing me in real life is minimal.

Parrots will never cease to make me excited. I seem most autistic when around them because I find it difficult to contain my excitement.

That's very good news. What colour is he going to be?

He looks like a little Sweet Pea.

He/She will be grey and have a red butt. You can google Congo African Grey and see how they look.

How do you think Sammy will feel about a new parrot? I'm not an avian expert but I do know parrots can get seriously jealous. I hope it goes smoothly for you all.

Sammy will get jealous. He is good with other parrots; he puts the younger ones in their place and respects the older ones (as he should).

He will always be superior to the other one as he is older and has been with me longer and will thus be the "alpha". It is natural.

They will not be sharing a cage and I will train them so that they can be outside with me at the same time without fighting. It should not be too hard to train them to do that - as long as the younger one knows his/her place.
