Has anyone been diagnosed with any form of porphyria is also affected by autism? Do you have any young kids affected with porphyria who are symptomatic? What is/was your / their journey? Our form is coproporphyria but I'll appreciate to hear from individuals with any porphyria type. Feel free to PM me.

No, I don't have it. In fact I'm kind of tired of hearing how how every disease out there has some kind of connection to autism. I had a cold last week, it must have been because of autism. But wait, everyone gets colds, so maybe not. But I had a very badly stuffed-up nose so maybe that's because of autism. But most people get a runny, stuffy nose when they have a cold, so maybe not.

Just give me a break already.

Sorry for your last week's cold.

The connection between porphyria and autism is not far fetched. One of the diagnostic tests for porphyria is urine porphyrines. They are elevated for people with porphyria and for many autistic individuals. They are elevated for autistic people due to their impaired ability to process mercury, which is more likely to accumulate in their bodies.

I recommend to Google it first before getting irritated with a question posted.

I've never been tested for porphyria and I don't have any skin/nervous system problems so I'm unlikely to have it.

I'm also sick of hearing that every co-morbid disease must be somehow connected with autism. I have arthritis in my knee: could that be caused by autism?
