What I mean specifically is this...

Some people are like owls, some like wolves, some like robins, some like mice. All humans have their niche. I feel that is precisely why learning social rules is so hard. What works with a sparrow will not with a platypus.

Every human being presently living on this planet is Homo sapiens sapiens.

Ryéd flówed here.

i think i know exactly what you mean but i'm not sure the taxonomic approach is the right one. considering how big our brains are (physically, metaphorically) there's plenty of room for diversity in the way we interact with others without having to speciate per se

Can you expand on what you mean about people being like various animals?

Too often, people say things they don't mean, and mean things they don't say.

The thread contains jokes, but I think there was a solid concept in the analogy.
I see people falling into "types" too and being more and less compatible with others that share/compliment their personality & general approach to life.

In more "serious" psychological terms, we have the Myers-Briggs types to categorize the owls, wolves, robins & mice (and platypi). We may be all a single species, but we're complex enough that it doesn't always feel that way when trying to relate to each other.

I heard that some people think different races of people are really different species of humans, but they are usually racists who think interracial couples and people are "impure". I have a number of relatives who are biracial that I know personally, so I disagree. Even if I didn't have biracial relatives, I'd still disagree. :)

Last year, my (AS) 9-year-old son proudly told his class that his parents were different "subspecies."

I explained to him that the usual term when discussing humans is "race."

That was what I thought of too when I saw the thread title.

I wonder if it's 'only' neanderthal DNA or if there are others too in human DNA. Either way it's a cool fact IMO 8)
