Today whilst waiting for a bus to get to my place of work this boy came along and sat next to me. As he came to me he started talking about this game he was playing on his Nintendo DS as if he knew me. He was obviously waiting for a bus to get to school. What makes me think he might be an aspie? Well, firstly his focus on the game, secondly, his lack of eye-contact, he very much should every sign you could think of.

This is not the first time that has happened to me. I tend to track attention a lot of people who tend to be on the Autistic Spectrum. Don’t know what it is or why. Though nice to have a conversation although I didn’t quite know what it was about.

I'm jealous. ^^ Any idea why you might attract autistic people?

Maybe they can somehow tell you won't be looking at them. That would mean you aren't a threat, you aren't someone who would be wanting and expecting a lot of eye contact or looking at each other's faces.

Can't really explain what it is but it seems to be natural with me. For the last 20 years I have encountered so many different people on the Autistic Spectrum.

I'll have to remember that. Thanks for the tip.

I remember once I had a girl sit next to me (it was a crowded bus), and after a little while she noticed my MP3 I was listening to and got out her MP3 to compare. She started talking about where she got it from, then she asked me how many songs I could store on mine. I said I didn't really know, and so she had a look at it and worked out how many and how much it costed, etc.

I'm not saying she had ASD though, but she seemed a little eccentric.

I'm quite certain I have dated several people on the spectrum, although this was all before I knew that I was on it or even what it was. Assortative mating is the term psychologists give to people marrying others with similar diagnoses.

I attract a lot of people with autism and other disabilities (like cerebral palsy, OCD) as well. Most of the time, they are more extroverted, but that is not always the case. I think it happens because I am not very socially skilled, and other autistic kids might see me as a “safer?” person in contrast to the other toxic teenagers that are available as friends. I also try to never reject/gossip about anyone based on their differences, so that might be related. That’s just my take on it from personal experience.

I have the opposite issue. I give off some kind of aura that frightens other autistic people away, except for my wife.
