Yeah never hear from anyone since work got out for the summer......very quiet existence until TODAY when one of them leaves me a text asking if I can take three different kids places and pick up as well. These people don't give me the time of day! I hate driving, I can't stand small talk with kids and this teenager WHO is too embarrassed to talk to me at church functions.

P.S. These kids are 12-17 and live less than a mile from their desired destination. All have bikes....

I always rode my bike or walked. I know the kids would prefer to do that. I got stuck with this last summer.

I don't want to have everyday bound to a clock.

Are you doing this driving for pay, or as a volunteer?

Either way, I think you are entitled to "just say no."

I agree with bea, you can say no.
Tell them you are not feelin well. Why did you volunteer yourself if you know you wouldnt like it?

I would have just ignored the text. I have had to do that when I have dealt with people like the person you are dealing with. These people have no problem ignoring us when we reach out to them.

I don't want to be a door mat. I don't want to be seen as desperate for human contact. I'm a much happier, healthier person when I don't waste time with people who use me.

Small talk with kids is hard especially when you don't have much of a relationship with them or their parents. It is even harder when you have known the family for years but are still barely acquaintances.

I'm sure these kids have next door neighbors or school friends that could give them rides.

Yeah ... I hate it when that happens.

About ten years ago, a (now former) friend ask me if I would help him with his business. Then I never heard from him, and couldn't even find him until about a year ago when he knocked on my door and asked for a fifty-thousand dollar loan.

He tried all of his best sales techniques, and he almost had me convinced until he called me by the wrong name.

Danged fool ijitt critter had forgotten my name, yet he insisted that we were best friends.

He didn't get the loan. I haven't seen or heard from him since.
