And you still hang around anyway. For me social factors are a major issue, but of course it takes a lot more than that to be on the spectrum.

I'm in this category and the worst thing is that I'll never be sure. I don't have enough autistic traits to be officially diagnosed. I'm doing my little research, watching people on a few AS forums and I feel I'm different from them. Yet, there are still many similarities. I guess if I really tried, somebody would give me a set of labels for my behaviors, but I don't really care that much about the labels.

For the most part I have no idea who here is autistic or not, nor do I care for the most part.

Yeah, I think I fall into this category as well. There have been times where I have wondered if I should just leave because some members here have a rather hostile view of anyone who isn't diagnosed. I can relate to some of the traits/symptoms associated with ASD, but akin to @snowball5 I don't think that I have enough traits to actually qualify for a diagnosis.

Personally, I would say my main issue is hypersensitivity, and some people have suggested that the term HSP would describe me better. On another forum I posted about wondering about ASD, and the general consensus of that thread was that I should perhaps consider OCD and looking into HSP more.

There were a few on the thread who had an ASD and apparently could relate to me, one user commented that my writing style in my original post was "typical of someone on the spectrum" but that I shouldn't read too much into that because it's mere speculation. I asked what they meant by that, but they didn't reply.

However, I have also heard that people with OCD frequently have similar writing styles to those with an ASD, is there any truth to that? I know there have been discussions here about how families with OCD members often have someone with ASD, and obviously the two can co-occur within the same individual.

Now, in terms of social skills, although I have had made some rather regretful blunders in the past, I would say that I'm fairly decent at conversation these days. Sure, I still get awkward around cashiers, but most of the time I do fine. That's why I'm somewhat doubtful that I could be autistic. Recently on that other forum I had a user send me a PM saying that he is autistic and he was sending me this message because he "wanted to talk to others with autism (but you are more high functioning)". I was left confused by this message since I had never referred to myself as such on the forum, perhaps he was basing it on a few posts I made on threads to do with autism (it couldn't have been based on the main thread I made where I asked if I should look into it, since that was posted in the anon section). So in the end I posted back explaining that I'm probably not autistic but that we could still be friends, and he was fine with that and we continued talking. :)

You're most welcome here, LostDragon. And FireMonkey as well.

Even if you're not autistic, you both identify with people with autism. And you certainly have traits of autism.

Many who are not diagnosable with autism, do fall into the "Broader Autism Phenotype" (BAP) descriptor. It's sub-clinical levels of autistic traits. Family members of people with autism may fall into this category.

But even if you don't, you are welcome here as long as you don't break any rules such as harassment, hate speech, etc. We're all in the same leaky boat called "life" together. :)

Many of us on WP are non-autistic and either identify with some of the traits found on the spectrum(possibly Broader Autism Phenotype, as previously stated by BeaArthur?), or have a loved one/friend who is autistic and wish understand and support them better. It just serves to make the community here more diverse and better overall. You are most welcome here, LostDragon!

It's pretty obvious to anyone who reads your posts that you're not NT. So right there you fit in here on WP. You might be something other than autistic, or aspie, but NT is not it. So don't worry. And even if you were NT you still belong here. So don't worry about it.

You may well be autistic. I would certainly recommend a diagnosis. Have you taken any of the online tests? I am afraid that you cannot pick out autism from someone's writing. OCD is very common with ASD and bothers me more than the ASD does. Hypersensitivity is also very common with ASD. Social skills in female Aspies tend I suspect to be better than for male Aspies, which causes problems for diagnosing female Aspies, so simply being able to talk to someone does not remove you from the spectrum. I tend to think that ASD, Aspergers, OCD and Hyopersensitivity, along with numerous other disorders are actually all facets of the same syndrome. I think we divide ourselves a little too much and, of course, for Clinicians there can be money in a new syndrome.

Personally, I would rather not see people who are sure they are NT on here. This is, after all, supposed to be something of a sanctuary for us and Lords knows we need one. I would personally only except those who have to live with us from that prohibition. They need all the advice they can get and we can be of help.

I imagine that there will be a few appointments. I had my first one on the 1st this month, it took about 4 hours.
