Did anyone watch the repeat of this show "The Boy with the Incredible Brain" last night (UK only - sorry) I was a little perturbed that they mentioned autism but actually went to the extent of specifically saying that Daniel didn't have the social problems associated with autism but had the skills. Did I miss something here?

Now, we all know he is Aspergic so why did the show mislead the viewer? I think the showmanship of Daniel and his relative normality as compared to severe austistic savants is actually the kind of media aspergers needs so why didn't they mention his aspergers? They only seem to want to investigate aspergers in programs like "Make me normal" where they are severely affected and totally socially incapable to the extent that most people with aspergers would find it hard to relate to them nevermind NT's.

Anyone agree with me on this one?

Yes. I do agree. That is why the media suck. They are a bunch of manipulative fools.

Oh well. Hopefully if they talk about him in another program they will get it right.

When was this programme on?

Is it one among a number of such programmes, with other episodes likely to be shown later?

I saw that Make Me Normal programme - ONEWorld, BBC1 - using something called the Son-Rise method or something.

I also saw Rainman that was on last Saturday (3rd July), which played up to certain stereotypes but has proven to be a very good film in spite of this. Interesting role of the psychiatric/mental health profession, though it seems to be allowable to 'demonise' shrinks in the Media and to draw attention to the possibility that 'informed opinion' can be wrong and not necessarily in the person's best interest.
