"Reach out and touch someone." Was an ad campaign for AT&T in the late 70's to promote long distance calling.

My question relates to tactile touching. Do you have and act on the desire to impulsively touch other people?

I do. Thankfully I can resist acting on such impulses toward someone who is not immediate family and the impulse to reach out and touch, tap a stranger is rare and I've never acted on such an impulse. Family though? I tap, tag or lightly pinch (kind of like a bird's beak with my hand) my wife and kids pretty much daily. If I'm passing one of them in the house or they're sitting on the couch and I'm walking by them....touch. I'm grateful that they ignore it and it doesn't bother them.

I've always also liked taking my outstretched flattened hand and shoving it between the car seat and the underside of my wife's upper thigh. I like the pressure on my hand. It's comforting and endearing. I can't recall the first time I did that with her, but it was early on in our relationship and she was cool with it. I only have the desire to do that with her and doing that with anyone else would be uncomfortable.

I would never each out and touch a stranger.
