The trouble with categorical systems is the arbitrary difference between "you have it" and "you don't".

Hardline binary approaches to life are troublesome in any field - whether it is religion, politics, medicine, media, social forums, whatever. Black and white thinking drives a lot of the binary thinking and propaganda, which ignores shades of grey, complexity, confounding variables, critical thinking, and anything that doesn't suit the usually not-very-well hidden agendas some binary thinking propagandists have.

I suspect that everyone is binary about some things, and not others.
