1)...The Question?

What type of internet method do you use?

If you use wireless(wifi) why?

If you had the opportunity to be part
of a autism study and get a free
diagnoses to boot! Would you do it?

2)...Statements by Ghosthunter!

I use a Tmobile wireless internet account
that can go with me in domestic and travel
usage. I like it. The service has yielded
many burnt CD's and is well worth it's $30
per month for mobility purposes! I am not
one to be couped up in room all
the time.

I like wireless internet for the flexibility and
freedom!

If I was offered to be part of a autism study
I would definely do it. I have read books.
I have examined how you guys think and
how I think through my writing to you.
I have had the chance and opportunity to
examine my future job modification behaviours
due to this. Something fun! informative!
challenging! and a verification would DEFINELY
INTRIGUE me.

Hmmmmmm? How do I find these projects?

3)...The Question Repeated!

What type of internet method do you use?

If you use wireless(wifi) why?

If you had the opportunity to be part
of a autism study and get a free
diagnoses to boot! Would you do it?

For my windows hard drive (laptop computer) I use an 802.11b card running into the cablemodem router . It's also cool if I want to surf at one of the local coffee houses that feature Wifi open node access.
For the Linux drive (Currently the updated Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog) I hardwire with cat 5 to the cablerouter with a 100base nic card. I'm not even going to ATTEMPT to config Wifi with the current 2.6 Kernels!! !

Hey Ghosthunter, it's probably not a good idea to put two polls in one. People can only pick one option, so they can only answer one of the polls.

As for your questions -

I use cable internet through Comcast and a desktop computer. I would use wifi if I had a laptop, but I don't because they are harder to build/fix and more expensive.

I would love to be part of an autism study but I probably wouldn't be eligible because it would require a formal documented diagnosis which I decided not to get (I didn't want it on my record so I just have the informal diagnosis that was told to me verbally).

Oops! would I take part in an Autism study? Most likely not, due to the fact that I have serious concerns with being psyciatrically labelled.

I like the options you allow yourself. I prefer
the B-card for wifi'ing but DSL Can be a option.
Too bad it is stuck in one place, and that is a
dislike for me!

3)....I suspect why you would not a
formal diagnoses? am I correct!

Hmmmm? I would be intrigued, but do take your
point on the labeling part. When Scoots did
it, is he being labeled? And That is why I included
that question in this thread.

I have nothing to lose and a formal evaluation,
but others have kids, family, stable jobs to be
considered? Is this your scenerio?????????

The only way to split them up that I know of is to write two separate posts. Though for two topics as different as internet connections and autism studies, having one thread for each would make it easier to understand and respond to anyway.

I already have a desktop and I can't afford to get a second computer at the moment. The mobility would be really nice but mobility alone isn't worth the price of a second computer to me.

If you're thinking it's the family - actually no, I could have done it in secret while I was in college. It's because I don't want the stigma attached to my name when I'm starting my career. The last thing I need is for a company to find out about it and decide that I couldn't possibly have good enough people skills to work on a team.

I use DSL internet. I would be part of a autism study to help out people.

Question 1
I use DSL and my laptop. I have a wireless card, but basically all the places I go to are not in shooting range of a router.

Question 2
I wouldn't mind participating in an Autism Study. However, like pyraxis said, I'm wanting a semi-unofficial diagnosis. I mean, to be treated for it and its comorbid disorders. But currently, in the state of Missouri, Aspergers is not listed as a disorder which can receive SSDI. So, until I am ready to support myself, I cannot have a super-official-on-paper diagnosis. I suspect that will be after graduate school though. So I guess I would be willing to participate after graduate school, if the occasion arose.

I use DSL, not like my computer is good enough to utilize. it. When I go online with PS2, my ping is zero.

I would love to participate in an Autism study.

My question here is did Scoot already have a pre-existing clinical Diagnosis before he did the research study?

No, my scenario is that major issues with how being psychiatrically labled could negatively impact my life. That being said, I don't have Kids, family, or a stable job to be considered in the process.
Due to events that happened in the past, I really have zero trust in Psychiatry in general. If you have any questions about why I have so little trust in psychiatry PM me for the details, I don't feel comfortable talking about it in an open forum.

I use library computer that have (I think) a T1 line. They are relativly new and quite speedy!

The only problem is that most of the programs are locked off and they are "Kiosk"sed, meaning i can't do as much as I would like. I can upload pics, but not the other way around. ugh.

I have cable broadband rather than DSL,shared through a D-Link router linked to my network card for my desktop machine, and wifi for Mel's laptop. I am planning on putting a network card in the kids' computer and linking that to the router also. Hopefully there will be decent wifi support for Linux soon...

In my family's basement, we have a cable modem, and attached to that is a wireless router. That's how I connect to the Internet on my laptop from in my bedroom.

#1: No wi-fi, no real need for it. I have Charter 3mbit cable here in Wisconsin. I miss my 5mbit RoadRunner that I had at the last place I lived.. But it's no big deal, since I do all my heavy-duty downloading on a dedicated server that has a 10mb pipe. I'm kinda spoiled when it comes to Internet connections. :p

#2: Yes I would be interested.
