My only saving grace was that I got decent grades in school, particularly in English and any subject requiring a lot of reading and study. I was a strange girl who was interested in world cultures. (In middle school, Greece and Japan were my main countries of interest. In high school, when I started learning Spanish, I did extensive study about Spain and Argentina). I was the oddball student who liked diagramming sentences and conjugating verbs. Socially, however, I was pretty much a loser. That is changing now. I may never accomplish anything great or even live a completely independent life, but I am working on the independence part. At 54, I don't know how many more improvements I can make.
