Kind of a do-over from this thread (as it didn’t seem clear): viewtopic.php?t=371281

Anyway, have any of you heard of the campfire chant/song “Going On a Bear Hunt”? If not, then it’s about a group of people “we” who try to find a bear and on the way to its cave, they come across numerous natural obstacles including grass, mud, and a river. Most of the time, they have to go “through” it. Would any Aspies say that this is an accurate metaphor for Autism?

It could be accurate for people with many disorders. Or with no disorder at all.

It's a metaphor for life.

If the song were for Aspies it would involve them engineering a bridge, tunnel or bypass.

Asking autistic people for metaphors :D

A life misunderstood.

Being handed a menu, but you're not able to eat.

I won’t debate that, but people on the autistic spectrum seem to have more “obstacles” to go through in life than the average person.

This Aspie hates engineering. And it wouldn’t be realistic in this context anyway.

I was joking.

my metaphor would be akin to a stranger in a strange land, stumbling from one situation to another, barely getting used to one scene before the next would intrude, finally obtaining a measure of peace late in life. gads I hope it lasts.

My metaphor is my signature - it's like I'm sleepwalking through life and falling in lots of holes along the way.

I recently compared going through life for me to pinball. I have a minimal amount of control (the flippers) but mostly I'm just being bounced from one flashing, noisy thing to another.

In order for something to be "a metaphor for autism" it cannot be just about "obstacles". It needs the added ingredient of having obstacles that others around you don't have.

Sorry. Some of the nuances are lost online.
