I have heard that people with autism are often extremely particular about clothing. I was wondering if there were many people with autism (as adults) who like to wear many, many layers of clothing (t-shirt, sweater, hoodie, jacket, etc.) at the same time? I am like this, and it's why I love winter and despise summer. Of course, I know there are many (maybe even many more) people who feel the exact opposite way.

In colder months I usually wear a T-shirt and a hoodie or sweater over the top. I don't wear any more layers than that, except for a coat and a scarf when I go outside. I sometimes continue wearing a scarf indoors.

I do prefer the summer where I can just put on a T-shirt and shorts. God I miss those days.

Yes, I do.

I love winter, I love having lots of layers. I like the protection of it, the pressure of it (as long as the fabric and fitting is comfortable) and the security of it. I usually wear two pairs of socks, and one winter when I was staying somewhere with poor heating regularly wore 3 hooded tops in addition to base layer.

I hate summer.

Same as me then, it does make me feel a lot safer when I have tons of clothes on. And I do honestly get upset when I can't.

I like the freedom of movement that comes from wearing as little as possible.

Now, in winter, I usually wear a t-shirt with a padded shirt. Same padded shirt (although I have 2) but different t's. Same hockey pants, although I don't skate. When I go out I switch the padded shirt for a sweater. Sometimes put on a pair of jeans.

In summer, I wear short sleeve shirt, shorts and sandals. In the house, usually just a pair of athletic shorts.

I hate layers. I have certain hoodie/jacket combos.

I collect outdoor clothing and love being snug in the cold but I prefer two or three layers. Wearing a merino wool base layer and synthetic clothing on top feels really light and warm, I love it.

Using I wear more clothes than most people

But I don't "like" to

I am often cold

This changed about two years ago

Menopause

In terms of senses, I prefer long pants and long sleeves

Except when sleeping

More than once, at aikido, I was shivering cold and itchy , and nobody else was cold

Normally I do not wear many layers of clothes. I have a good warm hat that always keeps my ears warm. I use chemical hand warmers to keep my fingers warm and then a coat in the winter. I have some coats that are good down to 50 below zero F. but about the coldest it gets here is normally around -20F. But I am prepared for the next Little Ice Age, just in case.

Through the years for me this one has changed.

When I was younger in my teens I would wear layers even on the hottest day. Now, I am more less the opposite I only wear layers in the winter especially when it is extremely cold.

When summer comes it is shorts and t-shirt what started that off was when I was working at a school in my early 20’s doing outdoor maintenance. Those job’s could be active so wearing layers on a hot day on a job like that was unbearable.

No.
Likely because I'm not used to it, and it's not a common practice here. The climate here isn't cold enough for having more than 2-3 layers.

Personally, I can feel the clothes' weight. Whether the materials are light or heavy... But it's not just clothes, but also accessories.
Then there's being thin or thick. I can sense them too.

Whether it's my bra, my shirt, the blazers or jacket, the scarf, the hat, the necklace, the earrings, my ponytails... Even my glasses, my socks, the shoes, things in my pocket if they're big enough, my watch...
Semi-consciously consistently throughout the day -- I can feel them most at the time and even as I type this.

Sometimes I prefer certain weights of the items above before going out. Sometimes those weights gave me a form of security to roam around, and certain covers without feeling too exposed.
Then when I go home, I'd take most of it off in an instant.

Well not sure if like is the word but I need it.
1 I feel cold all the time unless I'm abroad or it's a very hot day (I live in England)
2 I feel really vulnerable when I'm outside without a coat. Like I don't have a barrier between myself and the world.
3 I have synaesthesia and when people rub forks against polystyrene I feel frozen. Even in summer on hot days.

I like to wear as few layers as possible, but I've spent most of the day wearing four layers, because it's freezing cold and my heating is not working. I can't really afford it anyway.

No quite the opposite, wearing many layers is not comfortable.
