I quit using antidepressants (venlafaxine) over a month ago after having been on them for 10 years. Aside from wanting to get rid of some nasty side effects, I was hoping quitting would also decrease my apathy. I started taking weekly supplements of vitamin D at the same time because I read a study which said that it could improve ASD symptoms, but I don't feel very different.

I'm looking for stuff that could decrease my social anxiety. Whenever I make eye contact with other people, I feel a strong urge to look away. I also want to leave a conversation the moment I run out of things to say and I rarely make jokes while talking to others because I'm afraid I would say something appropriate.

I've been reading a bit about supplements to do something about this but there seems to be an abundance and I don't know where to start. Anyone have experiences they would care to share?

My doctor suggested Vitamin-D drops. One tiny drop a day. So I bought a bottle. A couple days ago, I read a report saying they were completely useless. One needs the sun to make Vitamin-D.

I used to take a mountain of various supplements before, but stopped cold turkey.

If you eat a well-balanced diet, you shouldn't need any supplements.

The only thing I have noticed in the past 5 or 6 years is a fatter wallet!

The higher incidence of heart disease in Scotland vs Wales has been traced to the inadequate winter sun farther north. I take vitamin D when I'm not getting tanned. I had a period of avoiding UV, and starting D supplements coincided with the lifting of a depression.
My favourite supplement, however, is just drinking extra water. I have to keep track, or I wind up getting dehydrated and too stupid to figure it out. Drinking twice as much as I really need keeps my system better flushed, and I get more energy. More energy leads to more exercise, and that is a very powerful anti-depressant.
I wouldn't call air a supplement, but as well as the heavy breathing of exercise, one can get supercharged on oxygen with meditation techniques. Observing one's breath can be as calming as watching waves on a seashore, and is recommended by innumerable sages.

If you take Vitamin D supplements, make sure you also take Vitamin K2 supplements. You might also need Magnesium supplements if you're not getting enough from your diet. Taking Vitamin D supplements alone could lead to over calcification of the arteries, and increase your chances of having a heart attack.

This is my own personal daily supplementation stack:

After Breakfast

1x Thorne Research Basic Nutrients III (the best multivitamin on the market, in my opinion)
1x Jarrow Formulas Ubiquinol
1x Now Vitamin D-2000 IU
1-tsp Now Omega-3 Fish Oil

Before Lunch

1-drop of Detoxadine in water (this is an iodine supplement)

After Dinner

1x Jarrow Formulas Vitamin K2 MK-7
1x Thorne Research Magnesium CitraMate
1-tsp Now Omega-3 Fish Oil

This daily supplementation stack is specific to me and my diet. You will need to work out what you're missing from your own personal diet. And take the necessary supplements to meet your daily recommended intake, or get the missing vitamins and minerals from consuming other foods/drinks.

I also take an Apple Cider Vinegar drink before breakfast and dinner. This consists of 1 glass of water with 1-tbs of Apple Cider Vinegar added to it. If you do this, make sure to rinse your mouth out with water afterwards, or drink it through a straw, as Apple Cider Vinegar contains acetic acid. Not everyone can take vitamin D supplements.
They can cause an allergic reaction, as they did in myself.

Interesting. I've been considering buying L-theanine (a constituent of green tea) because I've read that it has a calming effect. I'm looking for something that would make me more social as well though. What's your experience regarding that?
