Dude, autistic people do everything that non-autistic people do, they just don't do it as often or like it as much (most of the time).

I didn't go to my 10 year reunion. I'm disabled & had nothing going on in my life at the time. I also lived in a very conversation area where people think of disableds as lazy leaches sucking on the teats of the hard-working American taxpayer.

I went to my 50th year high school class reunion. It was good. I guess if I live another 50 years, I might go to my 100th. But I expect the class will be fairly thinned out at that point.

I've been to a few. Most were disappointing. The same old cliques, the same old attitudes, the same old contempt and scorn.

Still, there were some good points. Some people's lives had taken a sharp economic downturn after they had moved out of their parents' houses. They were in the process of learning things that I had already known regarding personal responsibility and the indifference of society towards the poor.

I got to say, "Welcome to MY world" more than a few times.

I wouldn't go, if invited. There's one person I'd dearly love to speak to again but not in those circumstances.

I suppose it would be interesting to find out if they would be surprised just how isolated I've become since leaving school, they probably would remember me for brazenly walking out after registration and regularly being off 'sick' for days on end, the signs would have been there that I would effectively 'drop out' of society, but up until aged 14ish I had always been among the top performing students.

I didn't, one reason being what would have been the point?

During my high school years, I was one of many misfits desperate to fit in and most of my peers didn't like desperate types, so I was an anonymity, an outsider.

My 50th reunion is coming up in a few years. I may not go. There is no one that I want to re-unite with, and no one that I want to impress. I can get all the cheap food I want to eat at a local buffet restaurant, all of the cheap beer I can drink at the local German beirgarten, and all of the crappy music I want from the local broadcast radio stations.

And if I want to be with people who point out my flaws, criticize my every word, and generally despise me for being more successful than they, I'll just log in to WrongPlanet and post a few replies...
