WHAT HAPPEN TO THE OOPS WRONG PLAENT SITE
I CANT GET IT ANYMORE

I inquired through the "oddizms" site and was informed that Jypsy, who runs the "Oops" site was not feeling well. I hope I am not out of place in passing this information along, but I too was concerned. Any positive energy we can send to her I am sure would be beneficial. Like WP, her site is a refuge and comfort zone, plus, a wealth of information and support.

IM SORRY TO HEAR SHE IS NOT FEELING WELL .I WONDRER IF SOMEONE ELSE COULD RUN IT FOR HER TILL SHE IS BETTER ;IS THERE ANY WAY OF EMAILING HER TO SEND HER GET WELL WISH .THAT IDS THE BEST SITE SO MUCH INFO

WrongPlanet.net is working on setting up a mirror to allow you to view the site even though it is down. Please stay tuned. The OOPS WRONG PLANET site should be ready pretty soon for you guys to look at.

Yes. Funny enough, I sent in my picture to be a part of the Autistic Adults Picture Project, and once I received the confirmation email from them, suddenly the next day BAMMM!! ! The site crashed. I kinda joke around saying "I hope it wasn't my picture that did that." hehe.

Was the internet trying to tell me that I'm not very photogenic??? hmmmm...

To clarify, the link that Alex posted is actually a frame inside the WP.net site, which shows the Internet Archive (archive.org) archive of the site.

I guess I spoke too soon about no hard feelings. Now this lawyer-esque guy is threatening copyright infringement. Of course, it's got no basis in court. It's funny though. I'll let Alex have fun dealing with them, because he's the owner now.

In general I think it's better to ask before doing something like that, even if all you are doing is pointing to the Internet Archive. I would be really mad if someone put up something they referred to as a "mirror site" to my old site that I deleted (which isn't in the Internet Archive anyway), for instance. Anyone can go to the Internet Archive, but to say you're "hosting a mirror site" is a totally different thing than that. A mirror site is where you have a duplicate of the pages of the site on your own site, and you generally have to have permission before doing that. Again I'd be very angry if someone mirrored my site without permission, especially if I'd argued with that person in the past.

I also think if someone has a serious problem with you doing that, out of pure courtesy it would be a good idea to just delete those pages. I don't understand why mirroring someone's site against their will (even if you're using links to the Internet Archive) serves any kind of good purpose at all. Why do it if the site owner doesn't want you to? Outside legal things here, just if she has a problem with it, why don't you just take it down?

To clarify again, I'm not talking about copyright above. I'm talking about common decency. If someone doesn't want you to mirror their site (in any way), why do it? It seems inconsiderate and disrespectful. I don't want to get into some babble or battle about whether something technically violates some rule or another, that's not the point. The point is it doesn't serve a good purpose to do that once you know the person doesn't want you to be doing it.

As an aside, I seriously hope I don't have to give my snailmail address to strangers if someone ever genuinely plagiarizes me on this site. I've dealt with genuine online plagiarists before (not saying that's what you're doing here), and most sites have not required some ridiculously extensive proof of my identity in order to delete the copyrighted information. In fact, none have.

But again, law aside, if you've got someone's work on your site, and they don't want it there, why not just remove it to be nice instead of getting all defensive and rule-y?

Basically... jypsy has apparently had so much stress in her life that she deleted the site. Maybe for more reasons than just too stressed to maintain it, maybe she seriously didn't want it sitting there easily accessible without that kind of archive search. And if she's that incredibly stressed, putting more stress on her by doing something against her wishes seems insensitive and it would seem like the good thing to do is apologize and take it down rather than get embroiled in whether or not it's technically legal to do what you did. There are many things that are legal to do but not nice to do, and I don't understand why you wouldn't want to be nice.

Many people have submitted their work to the site and written content that she has posted there. This is valuable content that people should have the right to access. If she wants to talk to me, I will listen to her, but some random person who might not even know her just sent an email.

I don't think its fair for her to take away this resource from the many people who could benifit from the valuable information contained there. Linking to the internet archive is a way that I can help those who would like to continue to use her site. I see nothing morally or ethically wrong with this and I think that it is my duty to help those who would like to access the site.
