Hello. I’m new in this site. Nice to meet you all :)

I want to know how to get over an obsession involving a person. The person is a celebrity that’s dead. I’ve been having this obsession for a very long time and I just can’t stop thinking about him. How could i stop obsessing?

Take up social dancing.

Or do something to meet folks of the opposite sex.

Even joining an autistic/aspie support group could help. Even if you don't find some to date you might at least have fresh faces to "obsessed" with.

Replace it with a different obsession

Seriously I don't understand what the problem is

Maybe you don't have time or energy to do anything else.

But that is much better than obsessing over former spouses or friends that are still alive

That's what I do

Take up a hobby.

Get a job.

Set some goals.

Diversion

Do something

Or do nothing

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

Offhand I would say that it is better to obsess about someone who is living than someone who is dead.

It is quite common for someone to have a crush on a celebrity. There are many fan clubs in existence because it is so common. Often celebrities are put onto a pedastal. Most celebrities are only actors or musicians. What we see is only imaginary. We see them as an ideal. But they are not. They have their faults.

Jimmy

It seems, to me, like it is better to obsess over someone dead

Someone dead can't do anything to disappoint you

Someone alive could fall short of your expectations at any point. And then you have to be obsessed over what they are currently doing. Keep up.

But whatever.

Right now I am obsessed with a couple of precious lil "people".

And used to know mister redelings

Do not know if he is still alive

Doesn't matter that much though

Jeanne Courtney was alive as of October.

Welcome to WrongPlanet!

Your question is a tough one, and the only suggestion that I've got is give it time. Hopefully, with other things to focus on, the obsession will fade.

That is a pretty hard question.

I suppose maybe trying to figure out WHY you're obsessed with them might help with getting rid of it. Times I've obsessed over things/people I've had to find a way to make the whole matter feel 'finished'. In the intern I have used the diversion method.

It might help if you were able to offer up a little more information.

For example, the way you feel you are obsessed. What does your obsession look like? Do you spend time watching movies with this person in it? Does it affect other things you do? Etc. Etc.

I've been obsessed with all 3 girlfriends that I've had & a celeb crush. Being on OCD medication helps alittle but I'm still obsessed with my current girlfriend & the celeb crush. I never got over my exes until I got in a new relationship & I was single for 8 years after me & my 1st girlfriend broke up. My advice besides the OCD medication is to try & find somebody else to be obsessed with like a romantic partner, a good friend, or maybe another celeb but one who is currently very famous like Beyoncé for example.
