Me and my husband were waiting for the bus and the lady diagnosed with Asperger's was there. Unlike me, she had difficulties with facial expressions that was obvious and my husband even pointed it out (he says what comes to his mind) and said "why you so serious? Do you ever smile?"

Anyway this interaction showed me how different I was in this aspect, I happen to be very expressive, makes me question if I'm truly aspie, but I was also wondering if this was just a trait that can vary.

How did you learn that she has Asperger's?

I was talking to her one day and she very randomly told me.

I do both. Sometimes I have the aspie stoneface, and sometimes I'm extremely expressive. Depends on a lot of factors.

until college, i rarely smiled or laughed. although it might have more to do with (then undiagnosed) clinical depression and social anxiety disorder. and chinese tend to be more uptight than united states precious lil "people".

some idiots ask me "why are you smiling", like i need their consent form.

some idiots tell me "smile". like a puppet.

f**k miss elsie. f**k renee tsu. f**k amira jackmon.

once someone told me "i am not gay". she thought i was smiling at her because i found her attractive. but she did not tell me in a homophobic way. and she was in seventh grade. so what the flying f**k ever s**t.

actually i find precious lil "people" that smile and laugh too loud and too often, much more annoying than the serious types.

and i seriously believe society overvalues happiness like a panacea.

 be all, end all :skull:

lil dips**ts laugh uproariously at things that are not even funny. i don't find them funny. and i doubt they do either, but i am not telepathic.

My 'neutral face' (i.e. the one that I have when I'm feeling just okay) looks fairly miserable, hence people often think I'm unhappy when I'm not.

I'm expressive but others tend to misread my expressions. For example others think I'm angry or upset when I'm not & they think I'm amused or happy about something when I'm not. It's like my expressions are opposite of what they should be half the time.

It's a trait that can vary. And in my opinion a thing to keep in mind is that all traits start out with severe autism in children and work their way forward from there. The less severe the autism and the older the person is, there's a greater chance for traits to be less intense or even nonexistent.

Ditto. A lot of the time I will have a pretty straight face, especially when tired. But I can be very expressive an animated other times.

I sense facial expressions of other people negatively and thus dislike expressions and I try to keep them at a rather minimal level myself too.
