Okay, so I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong forum,, I'm new here heh.

Does anyone else have an extreme hatred of certain sounds? I've named this topic 'misophonia' because it's when you have a strong reaction to certain sounds. This can include chewing gum, sipping, tapping, etc. My problem is the sound of someone chewing their food. I absolutely, irrevocably despise this sound. This includes those who chew WITH their mouths closed because I can also hear them chewing. I can feel my heart racing from the sound and I grow angry.

This is hard to experience because most of the time this happens when I'm at work. I'll be in the break room trying to relax on my break, and I have to listen to someone chew their food. This can change my mood drastically.

I even hate the sound of me chewing or drinking. It's just an awful sound. What sounds do you completely despise?

I have misophonia big time, but not with people eating or drinking. I can't even hear those sorts of sounds.
But I have an extreme hatred of:-
-Babies and toddlers crying
-People moving around on the ground above me
-Loud motorcycles or cars with loud engines
-A neighbour hammering
-Distant bass drums like booming from a car outside
-Murmuring TV from another room
-People with loud coughs and sneezes

All these sounds are SO f*****g annoying, that's it's hard for me to ignore. I suppose that is misophonia.

Yeah, I'd say that's misophonia. It's definitely hard for me to ignore a lot of the sounds you listed off, too.

Yes, the sound of people chewing can drive me insane and make me irrationally angry. It might sound harsh, but I never spend time with people who don't have table manners - if I'm forced to sit through it the result will be seething hatred and I don't want to do that - they are probably perfectly nice people otherwise.

A lot of people think we're over-reacting, but it's literally impossible to explain how loud and unbearable the sound is to me. It makes it impossible for me to eat anything myself and there's nothing left in my head than a pressing, urgent need to distance myself from the source of aggression. I left restaurants in the middle of the meal due to such incidents.

It's one of the reasons I never eat at work and wear my headphones most of the time, it's the only thing I can suggest.

Yeah, that's how I feel! I get very angry at loud chewers, but in reality, they're most likely nice people. I've tried explaining this over reaction to my family members, and they just mock me. I laugh with them, but at the end of the day, I'm still stuck with hyper-sensitive issue with specific sounds. I'm always equipped with ear buds whenever these sounds get to me, and that always helps.

I concur with all of these.

Certain sounds really upset me, though they make me more panicky than angry. Those include but are not limited to:

- Paper bags or cardboard rubbing together.
- Styrofoam creaking or rubbing against something
- Permanent markers scratching
- Certain people rubbing their skin
- Cars passing
- Power tools
- Lawn mowers
- Motorcycles

Just thinking about them is unpleasant. :(

Styrofoam is just an all around awful material. Absolutely abhor it.

I hate the sound of people chewing and smacking their gum loudly.

I've been struggling with my noise defensiveness so much lately. The top sounds that make me very irritable are:
Anything clanging against a glass jar (my coworker frequently brings her lunch in a mason jar)
Someone coughing or sighing a lot
Someone coughing or sneezing very loudly
Loud eaters, gum chewers
Nail picking
Idling trucks
Motorcycles or noisy cars revving
My cats scraping the sides of their litter boxes
