Yes, I'm asking if NTs consider you weird. I know it's a subjective thing and most people wouldn't suspect it with the way I write on forums like this, but I'm curious.

With my story, it's rather interesting. There aren't a lot of NTs who are willing to be my friend, but the few I do find end up being the closest ones I ever had. I feel like I tend to be perceived as weird by those who don't care about me, though. It mainly happens like this: I get overly excited that things are going well with someone and end up making some mistake that ends that.

Reminds me of a time in 8th grade where something about me disgusted this jock kid. (I was not interested in him.) Another jock kid who I actually had a crush on was driven away by the very fact that I had a crush on him. Neither of those boys will currently accept my follow requests on Instagram. A lot of the stupid things I did to unknowingly distance myself from others happened in eighth grade.

What is it about me that makes me look so strange/intimidating to NT kids my age? I never did this intentionally. Is it the fact that I am most likely a highly sensitive person (HSP)? Is it the fact that I'm autistic and it tends to show in a manner so subtle I don't even notice? Is it the fact that I don't f—k with people when they piss me off? Who knows? Maybe I'll have to figure it out myself.

Yes, sometimes I wonder if they even realize they find me weird.

I have had several real friendships in my life, roughly 8 since as far as I can remember. The rest of the people (about 25 or so) I considered friends would gradually start behaving with hostility towards me. I would ask them why, and they would give ambiguous answers, weird was one of those responses. They don't know why they find me weird, just something inside of them tells them somethings wrong inside of me, and neither of us ever knew what the problem was.

That's why most aspies are driven to get tested to see whether or not they are aspies. Folks ostracizing them for being "weird".

Even other autistics have thought I'm weird.

It’s part and parcel of being on the Spectrum.

I have known that I am weird since I knew what “weird” meant.

I was bullied because I was physically and socially awkward. My sister's words in her letter for my appointment -

Quote:
As Tim grew to his teenage years he became more socially awkward and reclusive. It was around this time that he was badly bullied at boarding school due to not being a ‘normal’ kind of teenage lad.

NTs tend to be conformists and gravitate towards groupthink to fit into various sub-tribes...
Autistics tend to be individualists...

I've often been called snobby (which basically means aloof... or "superior" around here). I've been called weird. I've also been told that I "almost make a proper human being" (wtf?). All told to me by supposed friends.
They can all kiss my arse!

Yeah but I normally put it down to other things than being aspie. I was always the 'other' and I have about 3 or 4 different egs of how.

At the moment they don't think I'm weird, they just get my age wrong (even when I tell them they're like 'really?' then go on with treating me like a child) and patronise accordingly.

One woman does think everything I say is really funny though. I say something with a straight voice and she says 'you do say some stuff'. Usually when I try to put forward a 'theory' on the world.

Also - people get nicer as you age. Most of my mistreatment was at school. So there's that, I guess. Trouble is, a lot of my initial mistreatment came from adults I barely knew when I was about 12! Seriously. I would never speak to a young person of 12-14 the way they spoke to me.

As someone who doesn't mask and is within a mixtures of yet rather easy cultures, it's usually expected.
At the same time, I live in a country that discriminates and tolerates each other's families, tribes, genders, etc...

If I could describe the whole thing, my whole case can be seen as hilariously ironic.

Yep...
I don't present well in real time and get the patronising thing...
The irony is that based on my IQ and natural reasoning ability, I am head and shoulders more intellectual/intelligent than most of them...<shrug>

8th grade was a batch of success for me, my problems started 1 year later. I happen to gravitate towards topics that are either controversial or just plain out obscure, and being over-enthusiastic nearly killed many a friendship, the strange is though, with a few of them- it’s like they still wanted to be my friend even after i got manic/insulting of them, guess they must have liked me after all. But that was only 1% of the population, everybody else I had no clue how to get along with
