I am the father of a 6 year old on the spectrum (mostly non-verbal) and want to help him as much as I can. I would like to know if any members have received treatment outside of aba and have felt that it has been helpful. Please share your experience if you have had any positive opinion on any treatment. Especially looking for people with experience at the lower functioning end of the spectrum.

My goals are to help him communicate better, keep him occupied in something that he likes (instead of destructive behavior), learn as much as possible, and become as independent and well regulated as possible.

There is one member of this site that has actually written a book about this. His name is Jason Lu and the title of the book is "Eikona Bridge". He has an unusual approach but it appears to be working quite well.

I have read his book and am actually trying this out. I would like to find image recognition software that can label a photo in writing and words. I would love to then show labeled photos of everything to my son. I think Jason’s approach isn’t perfect for everyone but it does have something new something useful.
