Although i think it is good that you have a new special interest.
May i also recommend arduino electronic locks, which are more secure, more sophisticated and a great deal harder to
unlock without authorisation in the form of an electronic key.
Such electronic locks have the potential to be extremely thief proof, if fitted with enough heavy duty reinforcement protecting the electronics. not impossible, as if you read the papers you will see that pro heists have been able to infiltrate and break even the most robust and professional lock.
However, i would say that a moderate level installation would prevent most petty "masterlock" experts from being able to break the lock, due to electronic locks having no actually key or cylinder.
Also, may i note that Arduino has many more uses, as locking devices are very simple when compared to many of the more sophisticated uses for embedded systems. Which are in short, have great potential only limited by your imagination, your knowledge of their systems and your bank balance.
I also note, Embedded systems are one essential component of Internet of things devices (IoT) an industry where there is presently massive growth.
