Greetings,
I do not post much if at all, but thought this could be helpful to others. I stumbled across something new (to me) and interesting, weighted blankets. They are intended for people much like many of us on WP. After researching various products and thinking how this might fill a void in my life it occurred to me that weighted blankets provide the same type of soothing comfort as Temple Grandin's "Squeeze Machine" and I realized that that was what was missing. I purchased a 20lb. blanket weighted with glass beads, one of the many offerings on Amazon. When I received it 20lbs. felt awfully heavy, but figured to give it a try for a night or two returning it if it isn't workable. That will be unnecessary now as I just love how it makes me feel. It totally relaxes me, a soothing comforting feeling that I have never felt before. So much so that I did not want to get out of bed in the morning. I might just lug it out to my living room when there's a movie I want to watch. The cost is reasonable too.

Have been looking for a weighed blanket too, but didn't buy yet!

I still have some reservations...
To those with experience with weighed blankets, please advice on the following:

How do you cope with warmer weather? Isn't a heavy blanket very warm?

If you have a plastic granulate filling, is it odourless? (I have severe smell sensitivity)

The price seems rather steep in stores I've been looking around. How much have you paid?

I also stim in bed (mainly tactile, but some rocking if really stressed) to wind down after a overwhelming day. The blanket would serve as a static stim that doesn't require an effort... would it be suitable as a soothing stim to replace dynamic input?

All advice welcome!

I really want one too, but they seem to only be available online. I'm so picky about texture and sound and weight and fabric and everything sensory that I'm not going to buy one unless I see it first hand rather than on the internet. Also, I've heard that they're cold because of the sand or glass inside. :( In the meantime I just pile things on top of my duvet for added weight.

I have one. I have insomnia, and it does help me sleep a bit better - unfortunately I can only use it in the winter because it makes me too hot otherwise. It's filled with glass beads and I haven't noticed any smell.

Does it make a sound? I always wonder if I'd hear the beads / sand move around? Or if my cat / dog walked on top would it crunch like a bean bag sound?

I'm a weird autistic----in that I don't like too much on me at all when I sleep.

I prefer a sheet over a blanket most of the time.

I found being "blanketed' with cats very comforting. Listening to them purr was soothing.

Oh dear God ..... well, forget that then! :x Yours is glass beads; I wonder if the sand ones make a sound as well. Chances are they'd make even more sound, though! Thanks for letting me know.

I LOVE mine. I can't be without it. It stays on my bed. It is also 20 pounds which is actually too heavy for me so I only use it a little bit at a time but it really makes a difference for me. I am also going to get a lighter one that I can use for longer periods of time. But the 20 pound one gives me instant relief. I just have to be careful not to fall asleep under it because it is too much weight for my body to sustain safely.

That is one of my favorite things. I miss my cats so much.

Mine was made for me by a friend. They are extremely easy to make if you sew. And if you do you can pick the fabric and beads that you like.

I just sleep with 10-12 layers of blankets. Partly for the weight and partly because I can't regulate my body temperature in my sleep, I get really cold. In the summer I just turn up the A/C.
