I was just wondering if anyone experiences this: I’ve heard that for most people with autism, sensory sensitivities are painful for them, but I’ve never really experienced pain from my sensitivities. Some sounds are painful for me depending on how loud they are, but not too much. My sensitivities are more unbearably annoying than anything; sometimes so much so that I have a meltdown. They don’t hurt, but they bother me so much emotionally and mentally that I can’t take it. I hope that makes sense. Do sensory sensitivities have to be physically painful to be considered as such?

... The usual description of sensory sensitivity is more to do with intensified input (which is typically discomfortable painful) than subtle kinds of sensitivity (being easily affected -- pain or no pain).
Both can be overwhelming for different reasons; the former is just is, intense and notable. The latter is more about quantity and distractive like overwhelm.

The latter's more of my problem than the former. Your issue's quite more similar to my case.

Makes complete sense. Some of mine are like that too.
