I still have memories of an incident that occurred when I was 9 at prep school. We were waiting for the headmaster to take our class. Some boys were being rather noisy. The headmaster came in and went up to me and asked what I was doing. I said 'Nothing' meaning I'd not been one of those making a lot of noise . His response was that I should have been doing something. He then called me to his study for the purpose of giving me 6 whacks with the cane. This really confused me. I was a crying, trembling mess in his study, waiting to be caned, that he never did give me those 6 whacks with the cane.

I interpret this story as a moody, inconsistent teacher abusing his power and you as a scapegoat. Probably his reasons were completely outside of your behavior. He came to the class angry, chose to spill his anger on you, but by the time you came to his study he cooled off enough to change his mind.

Just this. Very unfair but nothing really unusual. A good teacher would never do something like this but there is plenty of teachers who aren't good.

I agree with Magz.

He was a sadistic b*st*rd who is obviously dead by now.

Being a good sportsman and soldier does not automatically make one well suited to educate sensitive children.

He was a sportsman and war hero and all that, but it sort of confirms to me that what he saw as "failings" in you he probably attributed to lack of moral fibre. Obviously I never met the guy... but he does seem to be of a type that
I have encountered for the last 63 years (some of them close family members)... and they can all get lost and leave me alone.

He would have been better training soldiers... at least they will have volunteered for that type of treatment.

There was a definite pecking order; with boys whose fathers and grandfathers etc had gone to prep being seen in a better light than those of us who fathers and grandfathers etc hadn't .

Different autistics react differently

This sounds like it happened a long time ago

Based on your description it sounds like you did nothing wrong and other students were doing wrong things

You misunderstood the question, what are you doing

He misunderstood the answer

Because of that you almost got a punishment

Nobody on wrong planet has the authority to do anything about your situation

If you find it a preoccupation, maybe you should go to counseling

If you want

However the situation changed and it is not going to happen again

It would have fueled my resentment of adults if it happened to me at that age
