Do people lie to you because they think because of your autism you can’t handle the truth?

More like because they thought I'm too 'innocent' than autistic though.

No, I don't have a diagnosis of autism. People lie because they're plain dishonest or have a lousy way of communicating and don't share valuable information.

Motivations are subconscious so there is no way to know correlation versus causation


Having said that it appears to me, more like they lie to me because they think I will believe it. Sometimes they are correct

In my experience, there are numerous reasons as to why people lie to others.
Not all reasons are bad, some times people tell what NT's call "white lies" in order to prevent hurting people
or causing arguments.

I have to say that some NT people lie in order to manipulate others and ultimately to achieve
their desired result / objective.

Growing up unknowingly having ASD, while being extremely honest and holding rigid thought patterns / strong sense of justice. I found growing up in an area where my friends were NT and extremely dishonest / manipulative (they told lots of lies), constantly extremely confusing and distressing.

The people i knew didn't lie to me because i had ASD, but lied to me because they were right liars, who lied
to get their own way and to cover up the truth (which often meant that they had done something bad, but lied in order
to put the blame on others etc.)

I realise now that these people are just douche bags. It is a shame i had to grow up with such people, was not better protected from them and did not have straight forward friends who were decent and honest.

But nevermind. To be honest, that is the reality of life in general. I would say that a high percentage of NT's are dishonest. Including people who you would assume would be the most honest people such as police people, priests, lawyers, politicians. It's just how life works i am afraid, as crappy as that is, it is how it is.

Life does not always follow the perfect logic that we are born to think in.
Some of us ASD sufferers would be better suited to hanging out with religious or spiritual people.

I have come to form this simple rule: Lie to me, and I’ll never trust you again. I’d rather be a hermit and have no friends than have friends that lie to me constantly.

People lie to avoid conflict, to spare your feelings, because they are being polite. That is normal lying there. Now the abnormal lying are the people who are pathological liars. No one likes a pathological liar. No one likes liars who do it for attention. No one likes it when people lie to deceive or to commit fraud or to get someone else into trouble and to be thrown under the bus.

Now another reason why people would lie to me was because I was gullible and easily believed stuff. I could be easily pushed around and manipulated. Kids thought this was funny when I was little.

People would lie because they thought, correctly, that I was socially naïve and they could get away with it.

It's something I'm increasingly beginning to realize was done to me up to this point in life.
