I was remembering these days how I alienated some friends because I suggested going for breakfast together. This was a year or two before the American custom of meeting for breakfast arrived in this country. I just happened to read better English than Hebrew, so I had read about meeting for breakfast in the USA and I just liked the idea and suggested it.

I was once mocked no end and people got angry at me for "lying" when I said I had read that soon smoking would be banned from airplanes and airports, and therefore I didn't want to fly to the USA for my honeymoon because both my ex and I were heavy smokers and wouldn't endure the 13 hour flight.

I encounter this all the time, and quite honestly it's very frustrating. I feel like I'm constantly surrounded by idiots who have no clue what they're talking about. It seems as if nobody ever WANTS to learn more about the world around them. I've yet to meet anyone in person who was as interested in research as I am.

Yes, when I told my boss I had been diagnosed with ADD, he put on a superior smirk and said he had studied ADD and that people with "true" ADD couldn't read.

It's never happened to me.

I guess to feel "mocked" at being "advanced", one would have to perceive themselves as being "advanced". Quite honestly, I don't invest in my own ego quite so gratuitously.

To be fair, I don't think that's what Greentea meant by advanced. I think she simply meant up on the latest info.

Well then, "to be fair" it would be incredibly helpful if there were more clear and concise meanings and attributes to posts so that people (like myself) don't inadvertantly offend anyone.

I pissed a mother off when I said dislike of being held is one of the first signs of autism. She told me I was crazy and I worry over a baby sneezing.

WritersBlock- I didn't mean it to come off like that-I'm just sometimes overly formal when I write. Sorry.

Spokane_Girl- She does have a point I think, though. A single symptom can indicate more than one thing. For instance, you see a person sneeze. Are they allergic, do they have a cold or did something just fly up their nose?

The story of my childhood. Mocked and taunted by my age-peers because I had an advanced vocabulary, read a lot and knew a lot more than my age-peers. Also, I was way smarter than they were. In addition to mockery, attempted humiliation and bullying there was also physical conflict. So I had to learn to fight "dirty" early and fast which I did. After spraining wrists and breaking a few arms, the bastards stopped beating up on me. I was lucky and I never killed anyone in a fight. I came close a few times, but was saved by intervention.

Same here, except I never fought back. Somehow, I lacked a sense of self-preservation; I can't explain it. I internalized the NTs' abuse, instead, and became suicidal as a result.

This has been the case at every place I've ever worked, and I've paid dearly for holding unpopular viewpoints and for "daring" to argue with the ignoramuses. I've decided to just stop discussing anything of interest with my supervisors and co-workers, as it's a serious waste of my time and energy.

Incidentally, you ARE surrounded by idiots. ;)

All the time. I see the world as it might be, or as it will be, not as it is today.

One time at an engineer conference I suggested that low earth orbiting satellites (LEOs) will eventually replace all mobile terrestrial communications: cell phones, wireless internet, TV whatever. Everything will eventually be TCP/IP comms between the LEOs, and LEOs and ground. It makes sense.

They laughed at me.

Seriously? If your actions required an intervention I sincerely hope you remain in therapy for the rest of your life (anti-social and chronically violent beavior is typically not cured over a lifetime much less over night).

What is it with the propensity for violence in the Autistic community?
