Being able to euthanize yourself is legal in 3 countrys and just recently they started letting those with terminal illness's in the usa euthanize them self's.

I feel we should have the right just as those with terminal illness's, we're forever set up for failure and those with low functioning autism have it real bad and will probably never even be able to understand just how distorted their reality is.

The great majority of autistic s can't even drive a car let alone act appropriately and are prone to violent outbursts or sexual abuse, some of these autistic's are aware of their faults and can do nothing to stop it .

Not only that most of us will never be happy or at least to a point that is normal.

I'm not sure what I think.

I wont state any opinions because I know you'll disagree with me. :(

Oregon is the only state that allows it too. They also call it assisted suicide or whatever. It's normally for people with terminal illnesses. I don't agree anyone should have assisted suicide and it's only reserved for those who live in tremendous pain and can't live that way because their pain keeps them from enjoying life. What if I was allowed to kill myself in 6th grade, that would not have been a good decision and I am glad I lived.

You don't have end-stage cancer with extreme pain.

Honestly, I feel it's ridiculous for one to euthanize one's self because one has an autism spectrum disorder.

I'm sorry you're feeling so sad.

How is extreme psychological pain everyday any different than extreme physical pain ?

Sure it won't result in death but is it really anyway to live? Why shouldn't we offer these people a dignified way to die?

Sure its not terminal but it will last till death .

I think that would be a very bad idea. Just because you're autistic doesn't mean you need to be euthanised. Also I think it could be open to abuse.

You're probably more dignified than you think

There's much variation in people. There are many people who do not appear "dignified" at first glance. They compensate for their perceived lack of "dignity" in other ways.

You can, too.

No of course not. I know there is so much pain but I found that 16-31 are the worse years. After that it got a lot easier (a lot). So I would just hang on, things can get a lot better.

You know there's nothing invalid about your reality when compared to other people. Mindfulness practice is incredible and can help people to understand the nature of our reality.

I think every adult should be able to file for euthanasia, be required to have professional counseling and wait 6 months. If they still want to leave this planet, I believe they should have the right to be put to sleep.

Everyone should be able to euthanize themselves.

If life is a right, then so is death..

Youth in Asia? I support them.

Euthanasia? I can't say I do. Although for your context, I believe you can as long as the state legalizes it.

I kind of, sort of agree with this. If someone wants to kill themselves, I won't stop them. You won't hear me talking anyone off a ledge; you wanna jump, go ahead. (This coming from someone who has been in a suicidal state more than once)

Really, death is available in many forms to anyone who wants it. What you want is a comfortable death. I don't think anyone who isn't very, very old should get that. Death is permanent and important enough that it shouldn't be comfortable unless it comes at the end of a long life. If you can decide that the pain of death is less than the pain of life, death should be available to you but it shouldn't be easy.

But no one should be able to make that decision for someone else. I don't want a legal guardian deciding to euthanize their autistic child because they don't want to care for them. There just are no easy answers.

Absolutely not. Coping skills are needed, no need to die.

I guess I feel that if people want to commit suicide, which is really what euthanize yourself is, they will be able to do it and we won't be able to really do much about it. I don't agree with bringing the medical profession into it to help them do it. After all, how hard is it really to overdose on some OTC medicine, or some prescription you have? I just don't think it is medicine's role to help you commit suicide, though.

I also don't think that we should stop people in prison who try to kill themselves from doing it. I think death would be preferable to living the rest of your life in a maximum security prison, and it would save the taxpayers some money.

I don't agree. Who gets to decide what reality is "better" than another?
Everyone's reality is distorted. The only reason people feel bad about who they are is because of the aggressive mind viruses shared by society in general. None of it is real.

No. Just no. We weren't put on this planet to end our lives. Theres a reason for why we are here. Suicide is never the answer. It may be hard but thats how life is for all of us, autistic or non-autistic. There are many people here that are willing to help you on this planet. It may be hard to see that but If you reach out, you will find many that will be there to guide you. Trust me, the hardships of Autism are worth it in the end and you will be glad. People with low functioning Autism understand to a certain degree and Im sure they wouldn't give their life for anything else. None of us are set for failure but the opposite. I was someone diagnosed in middle school which was a big deal because people said a latter diagnosis means he wont be able to function well or anything. Well im 23 years old now and look at where im at. I moved out at 18, got a job, improved on many skills rapidly, had many relationships, and Im now perusing a career in acting and vocal arts. Its hard when you dont have the confidence in yourself to achieve what you want. When you give confidence in yourself then you become a much happier person and end up doing things you didnt think you could do. You can drive a car if you want to and you believe you can do it. Just work at it. I ended up getting the hang of driving after about a year and a half with practice and that wasnt practicing non stop, it was about once every month or two. Never give up. Its when you give up that you set yourself for failure but even if you do give up, you still can come back from it and there always will be people to help you back on your feet.
