Do you believe that Spongebob is autistic?

No doubt someone will say spongebob is a cartoon therefore not real blah blah blah.

But I know you mean does the character have autistic characteristics. I haven't watched it for such a long time I will have to review some episodes.

No. He is not real. Therefor, he cannot have a real disorder. The way he is depicted, however, is more like an incredibly naive person with some form of ADD/ADHD (imho).

I believe he suffers from a condition called stupidity. He is from the 1990's where characters like that were just stupid.

I can think of other characters from my childhood who lacked social understandings and surroundings and were just stupid.

This was the humor then from my childhood and now today we give characters these characteristics but we make them intelligent instead of dumb.

I think the guy who made him said he was. Funny enough I also forget how to tie my shoes sometimes.

I actually don't think Bean was stupid.

He just didn't feel like talking.

No, he's a sponge, and the creators of the show most probably didn't intend to make him autistic.

It was his cluelessness and how he couldn't figure out how to do things such as how to paint his living room and how to cut out a wall. Even at age 10 I knew that was not how you did it. But I do admit his stupid ways become clever because he can problem solve around his stupidity. He is labeled as a buffoon. I know Rowan Atkinson created him. The actor is intelligent in real life and has an engineering degree and I read people actually thought he was that stupid, that means he is a great actor if he was so believable in Bean.
