I can barely bear it when there is intense noise... it's like my mind slowly dissolves into panic, not too dissimilar to a toothache which needs to be stopped soon... and while for a blower which has a moderate amount of intense noise I usually try a plastic bottle, once I nearly lost it in response to a hellish jackhammer and was about to throw a glass bottle as a plastic one seemed to make no difference, but at least it stopped soon after I held back and just went insane on my own...

Will it always end up positively, though? It's like society always tries to push as much as possible... then if people go insane it blames them, isn't that convenient...

Yes, I have. And I identify completely.

No but I've did throw a radio across the room when a Tori Amos song came on. That was in 2004 and I haven't tried owning a radio since.

Perfectly described! :)

I did slam a door as hard as I could once when I kept hearing my neighbours hammering something for hours. I immediately felt guilty afterwards but hearing hammering on the other side of a wall is a misophonia-related pet peeve of mine.

There are other noises I loathe due to misophonia, such as:-

People coughing loud
People sneezing loud like 10 times
People clearing their throat
People yawning noisily
Farts that sound like a duck quacking
Fake burps
Babies crying/kids screaming or shouting
Dogs with a high-pitched bark that won't stop barking
People bomping about in the room above me
Loud cars or motorcycles
Hearing a TV murmuring from another room
Distant music blasting from a car or house
Dishes and plates clanging
Sirens in the distance going on for ages

All of these noises usually make me want to throw things in an angry rage.

I tended to hammer back if they were doing that, somehow I think reflecting the noise back would make them understand what the reason for my displeasure is, except when someone was banging doors once and I banged back they wrote to complain to me of my banging, implying that they can do it but not me, or they didn't get the message...

So wait you were going to throw a glass bottle at someone using a jackhammer?

If I threw objects at noise sources I'd be in prison by now because most of the sources of noise that really bother me are humans such as whiny or screechy toddlers, their mothers yelling at them, or people coughing a lot. Although the only thing I really want to throw at people who are coughing are cough drops.

I have the worst aim ever, so I'd probably miss if I tried to throw an object at anyone or anything, though. Maybe if I deliberately try to miss I *will* hit the target.

Has the OP thought about how much trouble they could get into if they actually did that? Throwing an object that can seriously hurt someone who was just doing their job. What about wearing earplugs or headphones?

I do hope they meant they were planning to throw the bottle within their own home towards the direction the noise was coming from...not actually at the person using the jackhammer. That said probably still would not be a good idea but better than throwing it at someone I suppose.

I was once going to possibly throw it at a vehicle, as I couldn't even see where the people were themselves... but seriously, I don't know what could be done with that most nightmarish of noise, if it begins out of nowhere I feel like I can barely string any coherent thoughts, barely breathe, because I'd have no idea when it would stop and once I was in the most awful of situations where they spent many months with a hellish circus set up merely a meter away from my front door, at one point it seemed apparent to me that living there was impossible... but if this has the potential to happen, especially at some new place (but really, these corporations apparently think they have the right to just destroy people's lives at any time in the name of wires below, but I suppose they don't normally last months, hopefully)... I just really have no idea what anyone can do in such dire circumstances, because it's not like I got a backup residence I could go to temporarily when this happens, so what's the choice, remain and be tortured or be homeless? What then could possibly act as a deterrent from throwing something even if it hurts them? Even if I end up in prison, as at least that isn't being made homeless by capitalism? There clearly is no society where anyone cares for anyone else, and as long as shareholder profit goes up who cares if people are tortured... this is always going to be these people's minds, and while I'd love to throw stuff at these bastards, as they're probably not the ones with the jackhammer, I can't do anything about that employee's choice to destroy everyone's lives just to get a salary. So, they're at fault too, and although they don't get most of the profit they are still at least partially deserving of at least plastic being thrown.

You receive my greatest empathy.
I really understand what you are feeling, because noise is a serious trigger for me.
Have you considered using earmuffs?
Not the local 5 dollar hardware store earmuffs, but proper earmuffs for shooting and industrial noise?

I bought the Peltor X5A earmuffs for around 35 dollar. These are the highest noise reduction earmuffs produced by 3M.
I don't dare to use them in public, but man... using them is sensory heaven.

Have you considered sensory aids (hearing protection?)

I think you might be in danger of alienating sympathetic listeners when you talk about resorting to violence. I understand that you feel tortured, do you understand that the people making these noises aren't going out of their way to target you, they're just able to filter noise out and aren't upset by it?

I don't think you would find much to enjoy about being locked away in prison, you have to look for a different solution.

Many noises can be absolutely maddening for me too, but my instinct is to press hard on my ears and try to bury my head under blankets, a pillow, etc, or just to curl up and tuck my head down. On occasion when it's driving me to the point of a meltdown, I will throw something small in the general direction of a noise, but by that point my brain isn't functioning enough for me to even try aiming, so I never even get close - or it's at a wall a sound is coming through, so I wouldn't have hit the source of the noise anyway.

I do resort to earplugs if I cannot stand a noise. Last Saturday I was indoors all day just chilling and it was pouring with rain outside and very windy, and I love hearing rough weather outside while I'm inside doing some relaxing activity like writing or dozing. But the old woman in the apartment above us decided to do some sort of noisy activity that sounded like there was a herd of elephants up there (even though she lives alone and doesn't really have visitors). I don't know what she was doing up there, but I had to put in my earplugs - which meant I couldn't hear the soothing sounds of the weather outside. I felt so angry, but what could I do? Run upstairs and tell her not to move about in her own home?

To me, it's the Teenage Werewolf reaction. In one scene some guy blows a trumpet right into Michael Landon's ear, and he retaliates physically. The other characters treat his reaction as abnormal. I saw it as a proper reaction.
