My mother is going to complete the ADI-R/parent interview as a part of an autism evaluation. She thinks I was normal as a child, able to imitate and follow directions. I was just a bit clumsy. However she also said that she had to work and didn’t spend too much time with me during the 2 to 5 age range, so it’s hard to give specific answers.

I asked her some questions, such as:

-Did I show you stuff I was interested in?
-I don’t think so? [Later] Yes, you did.

-Did I repeat stuff?
-Yeah, doesn’t every little kid? You sometimes got mad when I wouldn’t join you.

-Why did Dad say I was moody as a little kid?
-Dunno. Maybe because you often got upset when we took you out?
-Do you remember why?
-Well ... maybe the car ride bored you?

I believe I now fit the criteria pretty well. What happens if there’s no evidence of ASD in childhood?

In my eval they asked more than one person about my behavior, but then again, I was a kid back then. I don't know if they do the same for adults. Did they ask your dad or a former teacher or a nanny to fill one out too?

My father is 89 and my mother is dead. I have no older brothers and sisters. My father's recall of my early years is patchy to say the least . When I mentioned I was going for an assessment he said he saw no signs of it in me . I didn't press him as a source of information . My sister who is 3 years younger provided a letter with some info. My stepdaughter who has known me since 1982 came with me , and provided some info.

That was my situation.

Do not understand

When I got autism diagnosis

San Diego, age 21, 2004, $500

No witnesses were involved

Some autistics have no witnesses.

Everyone they interact with either:. Dead, absent without leave, no phone, no English, unwilling, no trachea, in jail

My dad is unwilling to talk to the psychologist.

No contact with other people who were present during my early childhood.
