This treatment is by no means new; I took growth hormone shots daily for several years starting at about age eight, because, due to my prematurity, doctors said if I didn't, I wouldn't get much past 4' 2". I grew a good ten inches over the course of that time and am now an adult at 4' 11", one inch taller than my mother. Frankly I think it's up to the individual person regarding whether they want treatment or not; the option is available, but no one who doesn't want it has to take it.

Just like with the search for a cure for Autism, if the individual wants it then more power to him but it should never be forced on anyone against his will or without his knowledge and consent.
