Seeing other young people's photos and selfies on social media of holidays abroad to places I've never been to seems to make me feel envious of them and doesn't really inspire me though. Two years ago I went to Krakow in Poland and last year went to Rome and went to Berlin in February. I only went with family and never with any close friends, I never took any selfies but took loads of pictures of the sights. I won't take selfies, I used to take pictures of myself before they were called selfies and was never always like them because I look weird in them and everyone else in smiling and better looking than I do in them so don't hardly bother. I seem to think people go to places for the sole purpose of filling up social media and for example go bungee jumping or go to the top of the empire state building or somewhere and feel as though you get to the top and you have 'achieved everything' or think 'my life is great!'.

Maybe you can save up for a train trip to Germany?

But you do travel, right? And it hasn't inspired you...? I think that you might actually be more jealous about others doing stuff with their friends than about them traveling.

I do not envy people traveling. If they like to travel all the more for them. But I find traveling many times boring. But on the other side, I think going on adventures is the most enjoyable things I have ever done.

So what is the difference. Primarily it is experiencing wonders.

When I was young, I went on a two week trip down the Grand Canyon on 5 man rubber rafts. That was an adventure. It was tranquil for around 55 minutes just gently traveling along with the water currents and then 5 minutes of pure adrenaline as we hit a roaring rapid. After about the first week, I began swimming through the rapids. I would just jump off the side of the boat and swim through the rapids and they would pick me up on the other side.

I think the difference between traveling and going on an adventure generally is getting off the well worn path and seeing the hidden world that few people see.

social media sucks, i know how you feel there. IME if you only go to the big cities and the touristy places you may as well stay home, the language is the only difference and there's loads of people out there trying to make a quick buck off of clueless tourists which turns me off personally.

straying off the beaten path is what makes traveling worth it like jimmy said.

can't you fly to paris for the price of dinner? or am i getting ryanair, etc wrong....(not that it's your only option)

i live in CA, i have to cross a continent AND the atlantic ocean to make it there. i'd like to go to poland one day, israel, rural france. i've heard many bad things about paris unfortunately - i was only using it as an example. at least i know rudimentary french.
