I have always struggled with finding things after I have put them away. I was 40 before I noticed someone with a list of their file folders, which helps in deciding where to put papers. Usually, I have a messy work area just because that makes so many things easy to spot. Recently, I bought a new pop-rivet squeezer before finding my old one in the drawer with the label maker that works by squeezing a die into a plastic tape. I have to remember that the glass cutter is in the scissor drawer, not the knife area or among the similarly-hardened files. Other things may be filed by function, material, colour, or shape, but my best trick is to put things back where I found them last.
