I can....but so what?

Whatever gets the shoes tied. Whatever gets the job done.

I can't. Even the "bunny ears" method you described is difficult for me. But that's also due to my coordination problems.

I can tie my shoes, but I’m much slower at it than other people.

I’m sort of ambidextrous, but it seems to slow me down because I get confused as to which hand to use and neither work as good as people who have a dominant hand.

When I worked as a teller, I was really slow at counting money, too.

As fas I can tell when I have had lace up shoes I've done bunny loops . My laces tend to come undone quickly. Slip ons are better for me .

Having a hard time figuring out how to tie shoes in the correct way was one of the first cues for me to realize that I was different from the other kids of my age. Eventually I figured it out and that gave me the opportunity to pass my shoe tying exam in front of the teacher at school. :ninja: Unfortunately I was too nervous to perform under pressure (off course my ASD wasn't helping with that either) and never managed to receive my shoe tying diploma. Ironically I never really struggled again with it since. :?

I also make two loops and tie them together!

And I've done this even since a kid showed me in Montessori when I was about 5 years old. And yeah, I'm now in my fifties and still do it this way.

------

If I was going to change, I'd probably start by watching several youtube videos and then picking my favorite. One of my non-spectrum traits is that I tend to be a pretty good athlete.

Other than my workout gym shoes, I don't usually wear shoes that have laces (I prefer simplicity), but I use the two bunny ears way. That's the way I learned it.

Also, for some reason I learned to tie my shoes later than most kids my age. I used to joke that I didn't learn until eighth grade, but really it was something like third or fourth grade. Most kids in the 90s at least learned in first or second grade. My parents and other adults tried to teach me, but for some reason at the time I just didn't want to put the mental effort into thinking about the tying process.

I never learned how to tie my shoes the "right way", but I'm not going to bother anymore.

I can tie my laces the "proper" way but it takes me longer than other people and I didn't learn how until I was 10. My sister took a lot of time to teach me.

I didn't even know that's not the "proper" way. That's how I've always done it. I know there is another method as well, which I don't even remember but failed at, but I wasn't aware it is apparently the superior method. I'll stick to what works for me

I use elastic shoelaces or wear velcro shoes.

I'll admit, shoelaces have been a lifelong struggle for me. No matter how hard I try, they usually become undone. I went through a period with shoes with a knob on the back that you push in and twist and worked much better than laces.

I've done it that way since I can remember . Now I just wear sneakers that have those pull up type laces , no need to tie them anymore .
