I met with my therapist earlier today. I told her I was taking an online college course, which she thought was a good idea, and that I chose it to avoid the emotional trauma I get being on the campus. She agreed with how I felt and that things like trying to make new friends or getting dates just aren’t going to work for now. Her homework for me is to practice thought diffusion. I told her I still want a girlfriend even though socialization isn’t going my way and she replied “Ok.” to me.

Unless you said that right as you were headed out the door of her office, I think she should’ve said way more than just “ok”.

That was indeed the situation.

First off, therapists seldom, if ever, tell you anything you don't already know. So the "OK" response was expected. Therapists often say "OK" to covertly express disapproval. She wanted to make you feel "heard" and/or "validated", without saying to your face she didn't like what you told her. She probably thought it was premature of you to want a girlfriend, since you just told her you had trouble socializing on campus.

I started a thread " Powerful Therapy Hacks 'They' Don't Want You To Know About" (viewtopic.php?t=383445) not too long ago. Perhaps you'll find it useful.
