I hate it when I don't understand ppl and they don't understand me I believe that in junior schools they should teach people about autism so they know how to treat us> also teachers need more understanding of autism, whio agrees with me

Solid,

I agree with you but in order for the children to learn about ASDs, the teaching adults need to know about them first.

An example, the School Bus Company in Rochester has about 150 drivers. Of that, I would say 20 - 30 drivers understand ASDs at least in part (and 1 or 2 members of the office staff). The Special Needs Paras are hired by the district but I know that not all of them know about ASDs. I would have to say that about 5 - 10 know about ASDs in part. There has also been complaints by the parents that the school paras know nothing about ASDs.

So this becomes a chicken and egg problem. Do we teach the adults first then the children or the other way around.

Similarly, I think someone needs to teach ASD people about neurotypicalism. So ASD people know how to interact with them, not just the other way around. You can't expect them to compromise without yourself also compromising.

Very good point Danlo but the opinion of the education system in the US is that the person with ASD must learn to make themselves NT without any compromise from the NT world in relation to the person with ASD

Solid, mate, you seem to have put a bit of work into your site, well done. But you may want to rethink some of the stuff you say on your site.

For example:

Quote:
Autism is a disorder where the child or adult have some difficulties for example they will get into really bad strops.
Autistics can´t cope with change very well so a little change to the time dinners ready will cause massive effects.
Autistics have sensitivity to touch and sound so going to the dentist is quite hard to cope with.
Most Autistics also have epilepsy which means when they´re older they normally have to go into a home for Autistics.
Many Autistics also have dyspraxia which causes bad hand eye cordination, concentration, memory and spelling.
There are 3 types of autism Asperger syndrome which makes you have superb brainpower, hyperfuncional autism where its just like classical autism yet you can speak and classical autism where you can´t speak and have the worst effects of autism.

Some of that is a tad wrong. Epilepsy is treatable, you don't have to go in homes for it. AS doesn't make you have "superb brainpower", no such thing called "hyperfunctional autism", and the difference between HFA and LFA is considered a question of IQ/functioning ability, not a differential of speaking/nonspeaking.

I've had people say to me I should learn to be like NT but they don't tell me how. If I knew, I would have done it already (except if I thought that some NT things were stupid, which I do eg. telling someone to "just drop in and visit" when you don't want them to, just in the name of being polite and being a fake and a phony in other ways)

I think the WORLD needs to stop thinking that Autism is a disease first, particularly the high-functioning end of it.

People who think autism is a disease are the same kinds of people who need signs saying "warning, coffee may be hot"

Well i don't exactly plan to b***h about it. I plan to do it right. I'm going to be a teacher, and im going to DISCOVER how each and every individual learns, whether they want to learn, whether they HAVE to learn, and other such extra things. I will style my teaching so as to teach THEM not just teach. I will set an example for other teachers before i write about the best way to do this s**t.
