I had a mental health appointment today and I didn't realize it was with someone who diagnosed stuff... (New patient assessment in new county)

Anyway, he was looking at my old dx.... Then he starts asking questions about my childhood, social skills... Etc..

Then he says "ummm... You have a diagnosis not on here and it's extremely obvious too..."

Now I'm officially Bipolar 1 and ASD Level 1

After all these years 8O

Better late than never.

I hope these diagnoses help.

Congrats on the diagnosis, I know it's something you've been waiting for a long time. How do you feel?

IDK...

He based it on my overall behavior in the office and my history. When I talk I arm flap and don't even notice. I can't regulate the volume of my voice. He said in front of him I did a couple social skills screw-ups I didn't seem to notice. He asked about my childhood and I mentioned my meltdown issue. He thought my past jobs all involving birds was diagnostic, etc...

He said my autism was so obvious that strangers on the street could easily pick me out 8O

And no, I didn't bring up the subject first...

But this is someone diagnosing me on the spot, I'll have to wait and see if more testing is recommended.

It sounds like progress, so that's good news. You strike me as ASD and fitting in here, so that seems right. Bipolar I is a pretty dramatic but intermittent condition with both mania and severe depression; with long enough observation (perhaps years) I'd think it would be clear.

Bipolar 1 is not new.... I've been diagnosed with it for years in some for or another and it was my original diagnosis and I'm on mood stabilizers and antips for it.... My earlier diagnosis before this was schizoaffective bipolar type, anxiety nos and borderline.

Okay, I looked it up and the person I talked to for two hours yesterday is a LCSW (Clinical Social Worker), I looked it up and they can diagnose, kinda wish it was a doctor though and I had the long assessment... I'm picky though... I'm the type that prefers a doctor to a nurse practitioner... Etc...
