Moving from irvine to corona.. how might this impact my kid?

So we currently live in a 2 br in irvine.. just renting. I figured it's time to buy a house and am looking at Corona because of the cheap real estate. There is an area there with school ratings with 8, 9 and even 10 school ratings.

My question to the group is

1. Is there a difference in services and benefits between oc and riverside?
2. Is there a correlation between school rating and quality of autism program?
3. Am I asking the right questions?

Actually "Corona" is just the Spanish word for 'halo". Its a common word in place names in parts of the World that were once part of the Spanish Empire, like California. And there is Mexican beer of that name.

Corona is a neighborhood in Queens, New York, and a town in New Mexico.

I assume that the question is contrasting the environments of Orange county to Riverside county in California. Orange county is on the coastal plain SE of Los Angeles. Riverside county is between the San Gabriel and San Jacinto mountains.

In relation to school quality, OC would have a higher tax base to draw from however, having more money does not correlate to better schools. I think I heard once that Washington DC spends over $10,000 per year on each student and they have horrible schools.

The problem with schools is more a problem with bureaucracies and institutions in general. If it is at all possible, you may wish to look into homeschool.

If you work in Irvine, then you will either have to take the 15S to the 74W to the 5N to get to work.  An alternative would be the 91W to the 241S (tollroad) to the 133S (tollroad).  Another option would be the 91W to the 57S to the 5S.

But you were asking about schools.  Right now, there is still debate over whether or not to even open the schools, so whatever on-line services seem better (and I don't know how you would make that judgement), is where I think you could register your kid(s) -- just have them log in from wherever and never tell anyone where they actually are.

Here is something else to consider: Most of Orange County seems to be more progressive than most of Riverside County, insofar as education is concerned.  Racism is also more openly expressed in Riverside County, while racism in Orange County is more subtle and pervasive.  That might have a lot to do with the former being mostly working-class and the latter being more affluent.

You'd be better off asking at citydata.com or at least in the parenting sub-forum.

It's unlikely that anyone here knows much about these specific places. I've lived in CA my whole life and have no idea.
