I feel like some of my symptoms of ASD is gone

Is that normal as I get older?

I have a history of being diagnosed with PDD-NOS and Mental Retardation Unspecified when I was an infant.

When I was three years old, I flew to the USA, my diagnosis changed to OHI ( Other Health Impairment ), then my parents got a second opinion, I was diagnosed with Autistic Disorder.

In 2013, my diagnosis of Mental Mental Retardation Unspecified and Autistic Disorder changed to cognitive and specific learning disorders, then Autism Spectrum Disorder.

I used to have severe communication delays or lack of social skills, severe learning disorders, borderline intellectual functioning, speech delay, psychosis, bizarre interests and self-injury behaviors from my early childhood

My symptoms got milder when I received special education and IEPs.

As an adult, I became very good at reading and understanding emotions, facial cues and body languages.

My symptoms of ASD used to be so severe to the point where I was surpressed and/or had difficulty expressing emotions from my early childhood.

Starting at age nine, my bizarre interests turned into specific subjects of interest, often manifesting as a borderline obsession with a few areas and/or hobbies.

I was psychotic from my early childhood.

That is why I have history of being diagnosed with Mental Retardation Unspecified, borderline intellectual functioning, learning disorders, PDD-NOS and Autistic Disorder.

ASD is categorized as a developmental delay, so it is not a fixed state, but a delayed one. People do grow and learn, so you feeling that you are functioning better is a real possibility. i certainly am not that same person I was in the past. Whether this is just learning to copy with my ASD through masking or other behavior, I am uncertain. For example, I know I have processing issues, but I have also learnt remedies to those issues. So how do I distinguish between having better processing or better coping? Not really sure of the answer.

But I agree with your underlying idea that we are not fixed and can change.

I was severely autistic until I was about 5.

I was diagnosed as being “brain-injured,” and went to a “brain-injured nursery school” for Kindergarten.

I first spoke in a research camp. They were researching autism.

These things tend to be brought on by stress and change.

I’ve had a few sunny periods in my life where I have gone many months with reduced symptoms only to come crashing down fairly quickly with a prolonged period of bad symptoms.

I would say it’s like the weather in Alaska, very few sunny days but prolonged dark days

Fairbanks gets very cold in the winter----but it gets lots of nice, sunny days from about April to October.

This is normal yes.

If you're 20 with autism, depending on how "bad" it is, by the time you reach 30 you'll mentally feel like you're 20-25 or just younger with a lot of added experience. Obviously, depending on what life experience you end up with that can be vastly different but this is just an example.

This is why a lot of 40-50 year olds with autism really get on well with 30 year olds or so. I've seen it a lot myself over the years, working in call centres you come across a lot of older aspie folk who mainly get on with the younger ones rather than their own age group.

Obviously this can be really negative for some people because they might not develop being able to look after themselves until they're well into their 50s.

If you feel like this the best thing to do is try and learn as much as you can about psychology in general - this has immensely helped me over the years because it's like a tool that you can use in tons of different situations, and lets face it you're going to have to be able to speak to people to get ahead in life. I can literally read people now on a much deeper level and I never thought I'd be able to do that but it's just constant youtube, learning, reading etc.

Mine too, which I'm glad about. I have developed better social skills and confidence, I can tolerate some noises that I didn't used to, I don't seem to have (or want) special interests any more, and I enjoy large social gatherings.
