Can I join the military, even though I have history of severe ASD from my early childhood?

Joining the military was always my dream, but my old IEP reports stated that I have very low IQ and SARC states that I have borderline intellectual functioning.

I used to have profound learning disorders, borderline intellectual functioning, severe communication delays, developmental Prosopagnosia, speech delay, delusions, hallucinations, painful sensory issues, bizarre behaviors, frustrations and sometimes used to have self injurious behaviors from my early childhood.

I still have the same symptoms and thoughts from my early childhood, it’s just very mild.

I also developed social skills much later than usual.

My symptoms got milder when I received special education and IEPs.

As an adult, I became very good at reading and understanding emotions, facial cues and body languages.

My symptoms of ASD used to be so severe to the point where I was suppressed and/or had difficulty expressing emotions from my early childhood.

Starting at age nine, my bizarre interests turned into specific subjects of interest, often manifesting as a borderline obsession with a few areas and/or hobbies.

I was psychotic from my early childhood.

That is why I have a history of being diagnosed with Mental Retardation Unspecified, borderline intellectual functioning, learning disorders, PDD-NOS and Autistic Disorder.

What branch of the military, are you thinking of, what is calling to you?

How long you want to stay, until retirement or until x amount of years?

What roles do you want to do? Do you want to be infantry working towards Special Operation or do you want to be a specialist?

If the disability does not stop you then the physical medical might but I believe you need to think about the questions I imposed upon you and I am pro-military, I wanted in and still do but I am screwed with physical.

It comes down to as well as how would you deal when you killing a living being, would you freeze, run or attack. I am not sure if it is possibly but during World War 2; a private named Desmond Doss served as a combat medical but refused to take his Weapons Handling Test because he was a conscious objector to violence, he wanted in because he want to help the wounded and served his duty as Sabbath Christian. He got into trouble but was allowed to join the conflict and saw action in the Pacific.

You could make the same claim as well as I am curious whether it is possible.

If you can not join up, do not dwindle or spiral into depression there is another option. Look up One Shepard or the Navy SEAL experience, these are courses you can try your luck to getting a military experience.

Try talking your GP doctor or a recruiter. Good luck, hope it helps....message me via private message I am interested if you made progress.

That is a lot of questions that are important to know.

I am looking for cyber jobs from the military.

For example, I can help the military to fix computers by reinstalling the operating systems from their computers

They might be civilian aid work in a form of, at least, in the UK, you could work as IT technician in a government capacity within the MOD complying with do not ask and do not tell under contract as another business.

The current OS I am not so sure if they have installed it because Windows XP and 7 is still being used to this day. It comes down as software configuration and migration times but for hobbyist to professionals, like you and I is a cake walk.

I doubt that is option but where are you? Are you in the states, EU?

ASD and IDs can disqualify you from serving in the military. Each branch has their own requirements and you should check.

Cyber work is needed in other areas other than the military. Law enforcement and intelligence need these skills nd would have different medical criteria. But other agencies like FEMA would use them as well. You can also looking into local, State, and private organizations that also look for people in this area. This is also a career move, meaning you what to think long term. Sometimes starting small is the way into this field. Every couple of years reassess where you are and the opportunities available to you.

If you want ask the recruiter for a waiver

You might not get a waiver, but it might be worth a try

Quote:
The US military has minimum enlistment standards at about the IQ 85 level. There have been two experiments with lowering this to 80 but in both cases these men could not master soldiering well enough to justify their costs.[150]

These alternatives if you want the opporuntity to test yourself, physical and mentally but if it is not your cup of tea and depending on your IT skills, you could do contract work as software developer, network or web developer and/or becoming an analyst in the many US Federal law enforcement. Just do not support ICE at the moment. Wait until people develops better common sense or stop peaceful protesting....
