Thinking too much is bad for you yes. You will stress yourself out and get anxiety if you're overthinking random stuff all the time. If it's positive overthinking like planning something for someone then ok probably not so bad but you can still get stressed.

I do know overthinking steals your mental resources in some way, the same way overwhelming senses steal your processing resources do.

So I'd say yes.

I used to overthink due to stress and anxiety which caused me to shutdown. Once I got rid of my stress and anxiety, I stopped overthinking and don't shutdown anymore.

I think it is related to stress. I can overthink stuff without much stress. However, if stress is the driver, it is very different. I would say stress is the driver, rather than overthinking per se.
