I was just reading a description of this personality disorder and it seems oddly similar to AS. The only difference I guess would be that autism is present from birth or childhood while personality disorders such as SPD aren’t diagnosed until a person is at least 18. The thing is is that a lot of people with this personality disorder claim to have had signs during childhood as well.
So I wonder, are a lot of people diagnosed with this condition also on the autism spectrum?
Could a lot of people who think they have AS actually have something else? I’ve noticed that a lot these disorders, Aspergers, schizoid, even ADHD have a lot of overlap with CPTSD and trauma.

Personality disorders are co-morbid and do overlap. Schizoid Personality Disorder can indeed be co-morbid with ASD:

Personality disorders and autism spectrum disorders: what are the connections?

Unfortunately people do get misdiagnosed. It happens a lot. It can take years to get an accurate one if you're a person who is dealing with professionals who specialize in only a few things. It sucks. Unfortunately, again, not a lot of people specialize in autism. At least not where I'm from.

There is some overlap in those that can complicate things. In an ideal setting, the doctors giving the dx rely on more than their own notes and visits with their clients. They should work closely with therapists who work with their clients, since they tend to be the ones who know the person best. It can take time to get an accurate dx. And comorbids throw in their own set of complications as well.

For me it took a team of specialists and a competent therapist to get an accurate dx. I have more than one dx though. I'm a complicated case.

I am familiar with SPD. I studied it a lot because I was misdiagnosed with it.

It's really not similar to AS. SPD does not involve restrictive/repetitive behaviors, sensory sensitivity, or difficulty learning social behavior. AS does not involve anhedonia. Etc.

Well people develop personalities in childhood (as well as in adulthood), so of course signs of a future personality disorder are noticeable in childhood. It's not like a personality disorder suddenly appears out of nowhere in adolescence or adulthood; it develops over time along with the personality itself. My point is that signs of SPD in childhood does not make SPD similar to AS.

I can't say for sure, but I doubt it. Schizoids tend to just not give a s**t about anything, and that is rather easy to differentiate from AS because strong personal interests are one of the hallmarks of AS.

If you have schizoid personality disorder, it's likely that you:

Prefer being alone and choose to do activities alone
Don't want or enjoy close relationships
Feel little if any desire for sexual relationships
Feel like you can't experience pleasure
Have difficulty expressing emotions and reacting appropriately to situations
May seem humorless, indifferent or emotionally cold to others
May appear to lack motivation and goals
Don't react to praise or critical remarks from others

aside from the sex thing and pleasure thing, i was first dx'ed with schizoid and later on another school shrink dx'ed me as schizotypal. i only remember those terms from peeking at their paperwork they wrote up on me, i was in single digits at the time.
